..my rotties are dopey fuckers to me and the other half..unless they got something they dont want to give up ...We take a dog to the pub occasionally and its amazing how many idiots think they can come up and make a fuss over it like its a labrador The dog soon starts growling and they back off

A proper Rottie should NOT be soppy to strangers...only buy dogs that are properly bred then you get a true loyal gardien and not a dog thats either too soppy or too fooking mental!

...we rescued a 3yo female......nice feeling giving a dog a home thats been abused

Nowt argumentative here.....people cannot comment negatively if they have never owned them...although i will admit these are a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands.

what a crock phil,.....rotties should not be soppy to strangers.....

yes they fooking should, its IF the strangers pose a threat, thats when you want them to be aggressive....

a bad dog is not born, its bred.....

every rotty owner i know have very loyal, but approachable dogs...
they fooking pets at the end of the day, and you dont want your pet attacking anyone and everyone for no reason....

Carlsworth...you dont know any PROPERLY bred dogs then ..and this is what saddens me about the breed..as not only does it make them too soppy it can make them overly dangerous...Breeding is a VERY complex matter which only genuine non money making breeders do.

Dont get me wrong if the dog is with me and a person walks past they do nothing ,if the person talks to me..the dog does nothing but watch...if they ask to stroke then no probs they except it and let them do it...if you come at the dog looking at it like a labrador they growl as a warning..if the said person is dumb and the owner lets it carry on...they will get bitten.

Please only comment if you know what you are talking about.

phil,...your a cock sometimes...
2 of my aunts used to breed warface rotties, and have won many classes with them....albeit, not at crofts....
and believe me, many of them were very scary dogs when provoked,....see....when "provoked",..the key word

We have 2 Rotties, one Female the Male.
Kia is 3 years old,Zac is 6 month old.
Zac has German bloodlines also,(will get pics up at somepoint)

Kia is a pedigree but were not too sure of her lines.
Love them both to bits.Incidenlty making a Rottie soppy will not make them overly dangerouse.

You are wrong to say that phil,i thourght you would know better as you have had so many of these type of dogs.

we walk the pup in town on Market day so he gets used to people petting and fussing him.

..its the only subject i know about..beleive that.

..i know rotties like my own hand ...and yes we show also

..just to clarify..provoked to me is when a person comes up and treats my dogs like a labrador...and dont ASK....we socialise all our dogs from pups..but when they hit a certain age then bam...puppyness goes out the window...bare in mind all show dogs that are proper rotties only behave for food...its called trickery

went to the dog home today was a rottie sittin next the gate so i bend down to talk to it and its fussing round the metal cage.

My girlfrined comes round me bends down next to me an it flips out jumps up the mesh fence baring its teeth and barkin my bird stumbles back in her flop-flops loses her balance goes to lean on the wall to get her balance back and instead leans on a door that opens both ways.

It opens she sits on her arse and im left standin next to the dog pissing my self wiv laughter ya really had to be there i aint laughed so hard in so long.

needless to say but i wont be getting that rottie

To be honest: I'm not impressed by that film...hardly a vicious attack if you ask me...

I've seen pittbulls hunt down hogs and I've seen people attacked by pittbulls, Mastino and so on...VERY VERY different to this, trust me.

Unfortunatly Rottweilers are a breed that is rather 'polluted' by poor bloodlines and therefor cancer is unfortunatly very common as well as behavioural problems
That isn't to say that they're not nice dogs though!

Even though most people tend to see them as guarddogs, they were never intended to be used as such...most people that own Rottweilers share a trait with Alfa romeo owners, that seem to think their's is a Ferrari.
It's not, atleast not in the world of guard and/or protection dogs.

Want a proper guarddog?

Try Boerbull, Mastino Napolitano, Fila Brasileiro, Bandog

..sorry Hooligan?

I think your find Rottweilers were used to guard prisoners for the Roman centurions....they also used to look after farmers coming back from markets with cows..the Rottie used to be able to fend off bears.Nowadays even the police are hesitant at using em due to the fact that they7 are very hard to stop when in attack mode...ok this video wasnt showing the real side..they were purely mauling/playing...which is good.

The dogs you refer ie pitbulls were purely bred to fight...so have no real good tendencies..hardly i safe guard imo.

Alsations..very good guard dogs as they are a herd animal which means very trainable.

BUT i will agree rotties have been made too soft thru poor bloodlines...hence why i pay top dollar and get a dog with as good lines as you can..my dogs are pure and people fail to know what a proper rottie should be like....not soppy (except to owners!),not aggressive (except when prompted!)

Sisters Dog (bud) and my niece (she is 2 in that pic)

Soft as shit with the family. I would walk in and he would growl and bark. Then he got used to me and was fine.

Just to clarify: I didn't mean to say that pittbulls are guarddogs (infact, most of them are CRAP when it's comes to guarding anything) But please don't think that Boerbull, Fila's, mastino's etc. were bred to fight!

Boerbulls were bred by the Dutch farmers (boer = farmer) to guard their farms in south Africa, Fila's were bred to guard plantations and Mastino's were used by the Romans to guard and to fight in armybattles

We'll have to disagree on the history of the Rottweiler though:

Mastino's were used by the Romans, not Rottweilers...
Rottweilers are originally from germany where they were bred as a workingdog and as luck would have it it was also capable of guarding.

Btw. I'm big dog-enthousiast just like you Phil, just different vieuws

I hate the fact that there are so many bullshitstories doing the rounds on dogs such as pittbulls: loads of people seem to have the mistaken idea that they can physically lock their jaws wich is utter bollox and pittbulls are one of the friendliest (if somewhat overenthousiastic...) and playfull dogs around HOWEVER their tenacity and inbred ANIMAL-agression can make them a handfull at times...

Guy i know who used to breed them reckoned that they descended from dogs used by the romans for carrying food befor donkeys got used for stuff like that, so that would make Phil kind of right as they also guarded the food too apprently, but they werent actually used by the romans for the "glamouress" guard duties like the prisoners etc.

He reckoned the name came from "the red tile" which referred to the roofs found in a roman village in germany where they descended from, as it translates to something similar to rottwiel, with the "er" meaning "comes from" like "londoner"

I remember it cause i'd heard "red tile" bit before but always thought "red tile" referred to the browney red bits on the dogs feet or something not a village where they came from.

Seeing as the last two on your 'guard dog list' will get taken off you at first oppurtunity by the police it aint great advice.

A guy i know bred pitbulls before they were banned and now breeds the neopolitan mastiffs, he's kept some of the pitbull lines in the dogs and they are just mental. Don't know why anyone without a serious inferiority complex would wanna own dogs like that, dangerous animals. Looks fookin hard as nails though

Adam: not over here they won't

And as far as keeping some of the pittbullblood in the Mastiff's....they have NOTHING to do with eachother whatsoever and are infact a different subspecies of dog so here's another

As far as inferiority-complexes go: certain dogs are used for specific tasks for example the guarding of a property. Hence the term GUARDDOG.
