If I can actually do it at all?

Got all the details of the vehicle, just need to find out who the registered keeper is to contact them.

but if it's not for a legal reason (ie legal case etc) DVLA won't tell you a thing. Data Protection Act forbids it.

DVLA won't tell even though it is for legal reasons.

Story is, we bought a new van but never got a log book for it. The DVLA won't give us a log book as it's registered to someone else!! We have owned it from new, we took delivery of the van, we placed the order through our supplier. They won't contact the registered keeper and they won't give us the details to contact them ourselves (about a van they never owned or kept).

Obviously this is a very difficult situation when it comes to wanting to tax the van when you have neither the log book or a tax reminder (because some other person has both of them).

You can if you say you have a shop, they parked illegally and need their address to issue a parking ticket to them.

My dad had this once from a video shop. He parked on their car park, 6 months later he got a letter asking for £200! They had got his address from the DVLA after capturing his reg on the CCTV footage.

Obviously he didn't pay the fine But you can get the owners details that way, it cots something like £12.50 maybe?
