Steve, I dunno if this is a viable option but if you have a very small drill bit, could you not drill a hole through from left to right and then push something through that hole that you can grip with both hands to turn it? Don't know if the bolt will withstand that or not, but it might be worth a try.

Well it just got the inlet manifold one out pretty much straight away!

Was hard to find tho, went to 4 motorfactors inc Halfords and only 1 place had any, and it was their last can!

Its wierd shit tho, dont feel like its really cold, but this meant to be like minus 40+

No joy with the exhaust stud yet tho. As there about 15mm sticking out i cut a notch in it for a big screwdriver, but no joy.
Notch is too wide for the biggest screwdriver socket I have too so cant use that

Stud extractors not much use on it at mo either as the 10mm ones are too big, and the 8mm one is too small even tho ive deliberatley rounded the threads off it...

I got too many option left to keep trying before I drill it out and make a fooking mess, so not doing that yet

Heat the head up, hammer the stub sticking out a couple of times then freez the stub and simply remove you need to go by some propper grips, i have some MAC ones that will not slip!

i carnt bealve all of you lot have no idea how to removed a broken stud

step 1 get a m10 nut
step 2 get a very hi amp welder slug it onto the end of the broken stud
step 3 let it cool down
step 4 get oxi bottles on the head area and warm it up
step 5 get a 17 socket and bar and simpley undo the nut
whats hard in that ?

You might find a local engineer wont even charge you. When I got a bolt stuck in my motocross bike my local bike engineer took it out for free and went on to spend a good amount of time explaining loads of shit about my engine to me

Wooooooo, done it

Wish I could weld, this wouldve been sorted yesterday

Or I just lived nearer Brom

After heating, freezing, heating, hammering, freezing, hammering, screwdrivering, molegripping, feezing some more...

Half the bolt snapped off

Got a socket and smashed it onto the bit thats left, unsuprisingly that didnt work, and just rounded it more.
Luckily it rounded it enough to get the stud remover on at last.

And after some more freezing, its off

Thanks for all the advice, apart from the drill it out shit, that seems a bit extreme to me

Now its time to take the heads off, what wonders am I about to descover...

woop,
was just about to say if that didnt work to run a die down the stud bit which was left then put 2 nuts on it and lock it off, same principle as the welding a nut on thing but without the welding providing of course there was enough stud sticking out to do this

I had 4 snapped studs in my cossie head and i justr drilled and tapped the holes, then got 4 cvh cam cover studs, retapped the smaller thread down so i could still us the 13mil nuts and the other size is larger thread and used them for inside the head as some of the studs also pulled through the hole

took me 45 mins and i got the head sorted and im worse at working on cars than you steve

but you got there in the end

think that drilling and tapping is far easier tbh and takes less time and money

whats the engine going it out of interest ?

If youdve noticed a different post about fresheing up an engine youdve realised I had the heads off within about 10mins of sorting the fucked studs out!

Bottomend now on engine stand, heads are on workbench, jus looking at manifolds to decide best way to adapt them.
Luckily 302 head to manifold bolt pattern is symetrical so can turn the manifolds upside down or swap left for right with no problems
