Default Shell Launches Optimax Beater

Been mentionned here recently, it has now happened according to piston-heads.

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=14871

Says "Shell UK has launched a new performance-oriented unleaded fuel: Shell V-Power.

Available across the UK, the 99RON petrol builds on the company's Optimax fuel launched in 2001, and is designed to provide even more power and responsiveness. It follows BP's launch of its 102 Unleaded brand recently (see link below)."

taken off another forum

The information packs have now arrived and it says,

V-Power is designed to provide higher levels of performance and responsiveness.
V-Power is 99 RON
Uses Friction Modification Technology - the same used by Ferrari F1
Increased levels of detergents for even cleaner engines.

It is not a simply name change, V-Power has been developed to provide higher levels of performance and enhancements in responsiveness to give drivers a better driving experience. Shell works closely with Ferrari F1 to create better fuels for the road.

Over the next few weeks, V-Power key-rings will be delivered to site to give to every customer buying V-Power.

Sites should received a promo pack with posters etc, for site staff to install. Contractors will visit sites over the next 4 weeks to install bigger adverts like banners and polesign inserts.

what does this additive do? if it makes it better or higher octane than optimax, then, winner

Basically it makes the engine run cleaner and can give a slightly higher Octane Rating, but nothing that an Octane Booster couldnt do. Dont get me wrong, Optimax / VPower is a very good fuel, but depends what extra Shell are going to charge for the rebranded stuff over the old stuff.

Esso did the same a year ago when they released a new improved Super Unleaded to compete with BP. All they did then was double the additive rate. Even then, additive is only injected at about 300-400 parts per million litres so its nowt major really.

I know Poland has this, they have 95, 97,99 and 102 - branded as V power racing.

Is Optimax being dropped?

Filled up on my way to Demon Theives today, and Sainsburys had Super Unleaded at 94.9 - bargain!

Those tanks only hold 7 - 8000 litres, they sell that in a couple of days. They are just struggling to bring the Garages signage up to date all at the same time.
