Default dump valves do you really need them?

I hear so many thoughts on this matter that you don't need them unless you are running silly boost or have a t4 or bigger, and if you don't have one then the turbo is going to get knacked.
What is the story on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My understanding is on RST Escort engines with mechanical fuel injection they're waste if time. Fiesta's are EFI and they do work but no point unl;ess you're running the boost to warrant one.

Same with Cosworths. Unless you're running the power to warrant one there's no point.

And IMHO they're a pain in the arse, sound shit and are prone to causing more problems than they solve.

But why pay out for a box to make something work that you just don't need?

I don't run DV's on either of my RS's and have never experienced even the slightest whiff of a problem. When I had a Bailey twin piston on my S2 it caused me no end of ballache. Best thing I did was rip the fucker off and throw it in my spares drawer

FFS Kapalaybunny..for some bizarre reason i clicked your top link and my fucking eyes have gone into spasm JESUS CHRIST turn it down

As for dump valves....any factory fitted cossie unit is fitted for a reason....longevity of the turbo...but thats only cause they run 270 degree bearings...all hybrids etc run the 360 so you can throw it in the bin

you dont need one upto and including t34 unless you are running a roller bearing type trubo. I am running big boost through mine and no dump valve. t38, t4 GT series and roller bearing turbos you must use one

Go to your local Audi or VW dealer and ask them to look up the name of it in their database. It will be listed as a "Noise surpressor"

...Andreas i was referring to the Cossie only...you wack the boost up on a 270 bearing and no dump valve and you could potensially be asking for trouble...but then i am talking ultimate reliability

Ginger....pump sold...as is the carcass

...Unfortunately i am right...why do you think a T4 has to have one?Air goin back thru turbo breaks things...you wack a T3 or T34 up without the upgrade kits and you are stressing the turbo far more...like yourself Ginge the 270 bearing is the weakest link

But again we talking ultimate realiability from the cossie engine...and who cares as something else will let go before a bearing in a turbo does

Comp stall is never going to be a good thing in terms of performance sulry Your going to be extended spool up time everytime you back off(to change gear).
Generally though the older type garretts can take the abuse much better than the gt range.
Sound wise i'm a fan of both but only certain dv's.

Ok im going to ask a question (may be very stupid)

If you have anti lag fitted can you have a dump valve in place so when the anti lag is switched off the dv operates
