hey mate i work up at Renault UK head office and deal with warranty - You will be fine getting the car serviced at an VAT reg Garage under the Block Exemtion rules... The only this Renault ask is that Renault parts are used.

This will not effect your warranty - the only thing to look out for is if the Non-Renault garage cock anything up causing parts to fail as a direct result of their work we wont pay under warranty!

If your getting it done outside of renault keep any Invoices you can showing renault parts are used! just to back up the service records.

so i can use any service garage but they must use genuine renault parts

i think 3350 for a service is a bit steep

Block Exemption means a manufacturer cant "Force" people to go back to them for Servicing and have the Monopoly.

The 36k Service is the major service so will cost a fair bit, You will find that servicing cost vary between dealer to dealer though as Renault only set Parts costs, Dealers set their labour rates

Does make a difference later down the line, mines just had a 2nd new turbo, intercooler and cat fitted FOC out of warrenty under their Yellow OTS scheme, all rested on it having full MDSH which it does have.

Gotta say full dealer history is worth it.

Yellow OTS for Turbos on the 1.9 DCi engine applys to 4 years or 90k miles and couldnt be declined due to having non-renault Service history as its a quality assurance scheme (Comes in yellow, blue & red depending on how serious it is) Only way would effect OTS is if the turbo had failed due to lack of or incorrect servicing with Nom genuine parts.

FRSH WILL make a difference if you contact customer services once the car is out of warranty for good will though! So yes will make a difference down the line (And of course resale prices) All depends how long you plan to keep the car.

They asked me to prove what oil was used during its service life, as this seemed to be the key factor with the dealer trying most of the tricks to make me pay. I just told them - whatever they had put in it

It was around 25 days short of 4 years old and less than 2000 miles to go before the 90k cut off. It took the dealer 3 1/2 weeks to fix, and RCS were useless in trying to help speed things up.

Most annoying thing was that they wouldn't guarantee the new parts fitted, only workmanship in fitting them

Rule of thumb if you go anywhere else other than a dealer. Keep records of everything used, including the oil specifications etc etc.
