Default XR4x4 calipers onto S1 will they fit?

Hi, just got hold of some XR4x4 calipers/carriers off an XR4x4 2.9.
Now what I would like to know is, will they fit onto my S1 rst?

If so, what carriers will I need and what discs?
And will my braded brake line fit onto the XR Caliper?

Ive been told the calipers are simmilar or the same as S2 calipers? and also been told I may need S2 carriers/discs?

Any help would be appreciated as hopefully fitting them at the weekend if it's possible!

Exscuse the phone pics!

Also Asked earlier in the escort turbo section but only had 1 person confirming i could fit them and would just like to know exactly what parts i need before I strip it down

I'm not very up on all this single pot caliper business they all look the same to me

But im sure the 4x4 calipers are the same, and will go straight on with series 2 discs.

the calipers are the same
the carriers are different due to the different offset on the S2 and xr discs

As said, the calipers are identical, only the carriers are different. IIRC they fit the same 260mm (or is it 240, can't remember) discs the S2 runs....

To be honest, you're better off getting a pair of 2WD Cossie calipers and using them with 4WD discs (again it's too late for me so can't remember if it's the other way round) as they simply botl up with only a couple of penny washers needed as spacers

S1's run a smaller caliper with a smaller pot and smaller discs The S2 disc upgrade is worthwhile, but in the long run it'd be better to go for the cossie discs n calipers

With the spacer bracket/2wd disc/s2 caliper setup, do I need S2 carriers or just the spacer bracket, caliper and disc?

if you want to use the 4x4 callipers you need to use xr4i(not 4x4) discs, the pedel will be a bit spongey compared to before, but when they bite.. they really do, making heavy breaking in the wet interesting... hope this helps.. t

S2 pads do have a 5% (~) extra surface area cover, but do not cover as much of the disc as the 4x4 Cossy pads, in terms of reaching the bell of the disc - the S2 pads come up short. That said, the majority of the braking force is to the outside of the disc anyway, so the pro's and con's will mostly come up even anyway.....

stickertone, Not sure what you mean mate, the XR4x4 calipers are the same as S2 calipers, so all i'd need is S2 discs and carriers or 2wd cossie discs and spacer brackets for that setup.

i'd assume the XR4i discs would be the same as s2 turbo items?

Thrush, I see what you mean. . hmm i'll prob stick with what I have seeing as they are free!

Anyone got S2 carriers/2wd discs for sale cheep? used discs are fine aslon as they aint fubar!

when i did this conversion on my orion i ghia, i took discs and callipers off a 4x4 sierra, the discs hit the callipers when put on as the offset was wrong, so we put xr4i ones on and all was well

the 2wd calipers are the best as they are 4 pots
the 4wd calipers are bigger versions of the S2 calipers (as found on the 90 spec onwards dohc sierras with discs all round)
the S2 caliper is a bigger version of the S1 caliper

the S1 caliper clamps onto a 240mm disc
the S2 caliper clamps onto a 260mm disc
the 4wd caliper clamps onto a 278mm disc
the 2wd caliper clamsp onto a 283mm disc

bigger is better but you can't bolt the 2wd caliper to the front of anything else without a bit of drilling and tapping of the hubs, but after that anything that fits onto a 2wd cosie brake upgrade wise will fit (so if you wanted to bolt on a 378mm conversion with ap 6 pots you could do so )

best of both worlds is the 4wd caliper and the 2wd disc, same bolt holes and, as thrush has commented, it's only the case of a washer to get the right disc to caliper offset sorted
