Default FAO Cossie tech experts, HELP!

My mate Rob was changing his head gasket yesterday on his 3 door. I think there were some teething problems when it was put back together.

Anyway, i have just woken to a text from 4am asking to put these questions on PF because he's stuck. They mean nothing to me so here goes!

"Is pinking noise similar to unlubed tappets?"

and

"Is the rotary arm timing mark a dot on the plastic disc in the dizzy?"

chop

ps cheers for wrong head bolts Mike

The rotor arm mark is a line on the outer ring of the dizzy - will be obvious when you see it...

Un-lubed tappets wil make a horrendous noise until oil gets to them. So in short: pinking noise IS NOT similar to un-lubed/dry tappets.

And the timing mark for the rotor arm is at about 2 o 'clock. Will be obvious as Rich said above

Steve, tell him to make sure he has the bottom pully lined up at the right mark easy mistake to be made. will let the valves just tap on the top of the pistons, not enough to cause dammage on idle but fatal if he goes and drives it

The plastic part in the dizzy also has a little dot on it.

The timing Mark on the botom pulley is the Lug next to the groove. Make sure he has it on the lug and not the groove. Thats an easy one to mess up

Question being relayed by phone...

is the lug the gearbox sensor pickup? Does that line up with the sharp vertical mark?

No line is apparent on the outer side of the dizzy. Only the dot is the apparent timing feature.
