Default PF Search function

Why is it so sh!t

I done a thread the other day and went to search for it, typed in the EXACT thread title, author and it still said "no topics matched your criteria"

and it's not the first time, it never finds what your looking for even when you KNOW what the title is or the author

/rant off

"Car insurance shock!"

All I didnt put in was the "!"

BUT

On other search functions ive used on various other forums, it usually matches it with just "shock" and "vroooom ptssssh" as the author and set to "topic title"

P.s. jus tried their again and still no joy?

"Car insurance shock!"
topic
general discussion
vroooom ptssssh as author

heres the topic on page 5

I could be wrong, but think Pet' disabled the inbuilt search facility as it was slowing the board down, after a new release of the BB software used to run the board (which Petrucci spends a considerable amount of time customising/tweaking for PF use)

I don't think it searches on titles, only on thread content.

Picked up "banned years ago" from a b19bal post on your thread, and the search found it, if you specify "Search for all items"

I find the search most useful to be honest, the bulk of the words we are looking for are in the posts, not in the titles

I just tried "Cosworth" searching in "GD" forum & came back with nothing.
I know the search was disabled before, but it was back up & running after Pet & Stu corrected something.

(Was looking for the S1 Cosworth thread from a week or two back)

i disabled lots of single words like "cosworth", "turbo", and all those things, because it's USELESS to search for them and they cause huge loads on the db. Don't tell me you find what you want when typing "cosworth" in a search, cause it's untrue. This word is written at least once a minute on here, and you'll surely not find your thread with such a general word on here... Now, if you want to do a search on "cosworth", then type "sierra cosworth" or any other word with it to precise your search about what you're really looking for. Lots of users were searching for words like "cars", "turbo", "lol", "shit", "ford" and so on (and even more stupid words like "the", "me, "you"...), and this is totally useless and causing huge trouble for the db as you can imagine... so, now, do a search with precise words and you'll see it works.

I did indeed search for "cosworth" but chose GD only forum due to that. I did want to give myself a chance of finding it today..lol. Also tried "cosworth series" but same result. Problem is that it's those types of words which people are going ot use to do a search. As you pointed out, not good searching for "The, Me,etc" but as I was looking for a specific thread on the "Series 1 with Cosworth engine" thread those words are the ones I would use....however if you know of alternative words I could use to find it

I think the page numbering system doesn't really help. Is there a way to change that as initially you get 1,2,3 and the last 3 pages. When you get to page 3, you get a 4 option. Is there a way to select page 30 for example without going through them all. Very frustrating.

Spot on mate. Much easier to navigate.
The board gets through so many pages in GD per day & this will defo make it easier to find something from a few days back.

I found it by putting in "4x4" in the end.
Not trying to create you problems Pet, just trying to make the board better & easier for everyone to navigate & do stuff (Except you & Stu it seems )

I did have another query, if it can be done ??

When you have done a search and the threads are listed, is it possible to change the settings so you can preview the thread (like you can during normal forum scanning). Mainly because if you click the thread then click "back" it doesn't allow you to go back to the 'found' page and you have to re-input the search criteria again.

when you click "<- BACK", click the refresh button then or press F5.

This SHOULD repost the search info, to save you typing it in again.
