I put all the genres like techno, trance, house etc etc under the dance banner.
House was the first to emerge in the late 80's closely followed by techno which was absolutely nothing like what people call techno today.
Yes, I am a vinyl geek BTW. Got over 700 in the loft, mostly. Decks are still in the front room tho.

No chance - of course techno is dance music.
Anything that's club based with a 4/4 time signature, and repetitive 8 or 16 bar loops has to be dance music by definition.
Plus, the easy thing with "Dance music" post 95 is that so much of it was legitimate club stuff that crossed over......
Pre-95 you've got so much better stuff, from that Happy Mondays stuff right through to some of that acid influenced early rave stuff.
United Dance Anthems 88-92 is doing the honours in my CD player in the car right now.....
