Ive got a rover 420sdi turbo diesel and the wifes diving back from scotland today ive jusy got a phone call from her saying its jumped out of 4th gear a couple of times any ideas..............is he gearbox gonna go????? help please, cheers

it may not go

it means the syncromesh in 4th has gone.

my old rst did this in fifth, box was fine quiet etc, but it would just pop out of fifth as you were crusing along the motorway

time for a new box i think

old mans rst does it in 1st, pain in the ass but easier to live with than fight the abs

what i mean is can a competant person do it or is it best left to a garage to fit?????
