Regrinds have less base height than blanks and give the followers a hard time unless you fit valve stem hats.

No, of all the various BD14,s 15s, 16s etc ive seen they all bloody differ from both each other and intended specification. In fact, we had one set measured and they were bloody standard.

The cam gives the follower a hard time as it operates in a higher position than its design was intended for due to the metal removed from the base circle.

People seem to forget that the lift is the different between the front of the lob and the back, and that you can NOT increase the front height when you reprofile, so all you can do is remove from the back, this means the lifts have to be taller and hence are not working in the way they were designed to and it can shorten their lifespan accordingly, i would imagine that there is a greater sideloading on the valve guides as well potentially, its certainly the case on cars with rockers when the valve train geometry gets messed around with like this but i dont have enough experience of it on OHC engines to say if the same is true,

Stu, can you comment on that?

PS

Ive also seen cams (although not specifically these ones) vary WILDLY from the spec they are supposed to be, from both piper and kent.

Unsure on the side loading idea, not something i have ever given much thought on an DOHC due to teh far more direct action of the cam follower arrangement, but either way, repros arent the way forward IMO.

Buy blanks.
