Default Microsoft XP problem

So some reason my computer is telling me that my XP is a hacked version etc etc

I have a genuine copy of xp with product code so dont understand why i have this problem all of a sudden. Is there any way of sorting this with wiping and restarting the whole install thing again

You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. The Windows product key installed on this computer is not genuine.

Where are you seeing this message, just visiting random web pages etc.

I would say visit the Microsoft update site, and let that do its validation test, that would be a true test to see if your version has been corrupted somehow, OR is it just "pop up" type thing like all the "your computer may be infected by a virus" etc, as betting it probably more than likely something like that, you got something on your PC, rather than it changing to an unregistered copy

there is a string in the registry you can remove that stops the message coming up. Our XP license is registered to the NHS as it should be seeing as I work for them but half the machines we have rebuilt come up with this error. Microsoft are apprently sorting it out for us. We have been waiting 4 months

When i get to work tomorrow i will dig out the fix for you

Read something the other week regarding this..

Someone has obtained your serial number and Microsoft will have noticed this is being used by more than 1 computter.

If you call them up and give them all your details then they will provide a fix for this,.

Search google for a program called Keyfinder.exe

It uses MS scripts to change the CD Key, all above board providing you use a legit key.

Remove the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification which is listed in your Add/Remove programs list.
