ok, sold an item on ebay and got notification that the buyer is in Nigeria! i tried to sell it last week but some nigerian screwed up the listing. Now this guy insists he is genuine and is taking ofence at me calling hima scammer the thing is, ive received emails from paypal telling me money is in my paypal account, but wont be released until i provide a tracking number for shipment.

this surely isnt right i though... never had that before, so i queried the paypal procedure with ebay and got a reply to my hotmail account saying it is all kosher.

im still not sending anything out until the money is IN my account, not in some potentially non exisitent holding area. Can anyone confirm that this is the way paypal now operates please? cos im confused lol

This is a Scam. Its not an official paypal email. I bet the address is Paypal@paypal.yahoo.com or something similar

Please dont send these idiots anything. You generally find that most of these people are based in Holland for some strange reason.

Give them fake tracking numbers and see when you get your money. I've had this a few times now and ebay are a pain coz they wont refund the charges to you.

As ballin say's it might show up as kosher now but 99% of the nigerian account's are scamer's so in a week or two you could have the money taken out of your account because the card/account is stolen i would'nt send anything relist it or give a second chance offer to someone else

Given that ebay is American owned and how poor some of the English is in that statement above, I cannot believe you believe that is kosher .

Despite their claims Paypal offers no protection to sellers (they even were forced to admit it is impossible for a seller to comply with their "seller protection policies".

If the payment is pending do not send the item. Also if I were you any money that’s sitting in your paypal account at the moment I would withdraw as they may freeze it without warning.

I won't go on too much about my prior experiences with Paypal but what I will say is we had to take legal action to recover nearly Ł2,000 in funds they decided to withhold unless I provided them with receipts for everything we had sold. It ended up costing them significantly more as legal fees were astronomical.

Paypal is without doubt a truly a dire service.

Edited as I've just seen the pasted email... 100% definite fake! www.consultant.com redirects to http://www.expertbee.com/consultant Can't see that being anything to do with Paypal.

I have years of Ebay selling experience and can tell you catagorically that is a very old scam. Ignore it, Paypal do not communicate like that just report it to their security department. Only ever access Paypal via the secure Ebay link never by any external link.

Definately a scam mate!

We use proprietary technology - and constantly innovate
WTF - this mickey mouse English has Nigerian fraudster written all over it.

NEVER deal with ANY Nigerian. Corruption is endemic in Nigeria and absolutely everything out there is currupt. Its a way of life. They can't help it as its all they've ever known. There is no chance this bloke isn't corrupt but even if he were legit I wouldn't deal with him on principle. When his country starts sorting out the corruption then he has the right to get the hump that you accused him of being a scammer.

You havent mentioned but did you follow any links to paypal or ebay through the links you got in that scam email? If you did it would be wise to change your email address & passwords NOW. This is how these scammers get access to other peoples ebay/paypal accounts to rip people off.

Nope, everything was done through ebay. i was well aware he was a scammer, i just dont know HOW when i emailed ebay through ebay channels, i got a spoof reply from him regarding the issue i had mailed them about, thats the worrying bit.

I did however get a legitimate reply from ebay this morning.

Ive sold the item to the second chance bidder now anyway
