Default Cars with no ID...........

Ive noticed quite a few cars for sale lately with no ID, used only as track cars.

Whats the deal with these cars and how come they have no ID???? Are they stolen recovered cars that have had the ID removed or cut out at some point and cant be put back on the road? Or maybe built up from new shells and never had numbers stamped in?

Can these cars be re-registered on Q plates, so they can be used on the road too?

Id really like a cheap-ish track car of some sort, ideally something YB, but would need to drive it to the events.

motorsport shells dont have ID i think, would be dodgy trying to register one.

a car that has no reg and was a road car should have a plate still or i'd walk away.

Thats the problem really mate. I thought if a car was stolen, had the ID removed, and then recovered and sold on as stolen recovered, then would be on a Q plate right?

And if a car has never had any ID, then that will be a car thats been built up from a NEW shell, puerly for the track?

Im a bit confused with it all really. Will these cars have some sort of paperwork to prove its never had ID and is fully legit? Can these be put onto Q plates in that case?

It could be that it was once a "break only" salvage car, so the ID is removed to prevent it ever going back on the road...?

Thats another thing, surely its illegal to sell ID. Ive seen ID publicly advertised, log book with vin and chassis plates etc. Thats just 'ringing' isnt it???

Im thinking i might be better off buying a proper escos shell and a 4x4 saff and building one up myself.

Its not technically illegal but the DVLA take a dim view of selling V5's and "scrap shells". If they become aware of docs being advertised like this then they are likely to register the car as scrap.

Im selling my track car with no i.d, but thats only because I have not applied for it. The new owner can fill out the form and apply.
Most track cars I know just have an id of another car ( scrap ) to get them to and from events, thats how it works.

So technically, doesnt that make these cars ringers, therefore illegal???

Is that all you have to do then, fill out a form and they issue with a Q plate?
