Might be buying a Ford Focus at the weekend. Probably a 1999 1.6 or 1.8 Zetec.
Is there anything in particular that I need to be aware of or look out for?
Enginewise? Bodywork? Interior? Braking and suspension etc?
Any advice or comments appreciated.

Bubbling paint work where the side mirror plastics meet the door panels, just under the window rubber.
1.6 are ok with decent mpg, the 1.8's are pretty thirsty

1.6 i think book is 99bhp but most of them run 115, 1.8 book is 115 but most run between 125 and 130, 2.0 is 135.
Not much difference between 1.6 and 1.8 round town but 1.8 is better for motorway driving. Not much between the 2.0 and 1.8 except for the fuel consumption, 2.0 are thirsty.

Book on my 1.8 is 115 but it ran 134 at PE and it's standard except for Coolflo filter and Sebring back box.
Book figures seem to be on the conservative side.

if you can go for 2.0l model its a better cruiser, with buying one just look out for the usual tell tell signs as with any other car you buy bushes, rust, accidents, service history.
With high milage cheap oil causes failures, coil packs, bushes, 02 sensors, tps, idle valve an tensioners seem to go too.
