Default can i run my 4x4 cos without a thermostat!!

hello peeps, just a quick question regarding if i can run my saph cos without its thermostat as i have a severe overheating prob at the moment(if u look in sierra an saff forum room it goes into more detail).for some reason my fans r not cutting in when it gets hot but they work ok when i bridge a connection to run them live, ive put a new fan switch in so whats next???,ive just taken the bottom hose off the rad and flushed the system thru, seems ok but had to take the thermostat out to get a good flow of water, question is can i now run the engine with the thermostat out as ive been told that you have to leave the therm in because it has a rubber seal round it to stop it leaking,is this true or can i run without (just for the purposes to check to see if the fans cut in) picking new one up tommorow morning!!.also IF the thermostat is fucked WOULD this cause the car to overheat and bubble up and chuck its content all over my driveway as it has been doing AND stop the fans working when it gets real hot.

please help as im baffled now and dont know wot to do next.hope someone can help me

regards rick

im not running one on my 2wd but hav no idea if the 4x4 coolent system is the same, the system runs so much better in the summer no overheating you just hav to let the lot heat up a lil longer

the fans have NOTHING to do wtih the thermostat.

the thermostat is there to stop water flowing thru the rad when the car is too COLD.

once it gets hot it opens

thats ALL it does.

yea if the thermostat is jammed shut it will cause overheating and also stop the hot water getting the the temp sensor and probably the sensor for the fan switch, the thermostat sits in a recess with a rubber seal one side of it this only seals the thermostat its self it would not cause the housing too leak as it has its own gasket to stop that, this is how the 2wd system works
