Came up the M1 tonight on the way back from Ace Cafe and chimps were zoomin past me in the 40 mph road works
The roadworks where they have the averaging cameras.
I thought... are the just twats who cant read or do they know something I dont, like the cameras are dummys...
Just wondered if anyone had got done in that section between J6 M25 and J10 Luton Airport yet.
The roadworks where they have the averaging cameras.

I've always wondered this, as all motorway roadworks seem to have them these days and although I always slow down, lots of people carry on at normal speed. I wonder if they get caught..

When I went on holiday a few weeks ago the cabby sped straight through them... When I asked he said he knew the guy that was responsible for setting those ones up (and the ones around J25 on the M25).... The cameras only cover the two outer lanes, and as theres no camera pointing at the inside lane, you can do what ever you like through there.... How true this is I don't know but, the cabby goes through there most days and he's never received points once since they have been up......Rather him than me though! Lol...
Oh...Disclaimer.... I'm not responsible if someone wants to try it and ends up with points on their license!!!!

i done a night shoot a while back and we finished at 1.15am and had to be up at 7 to go and meet the guys to collect the 3dr and take it to the bodyshop the next morning.
now the m25 is usually quiet at that time of the morning so for "just in case" a few strips of black gaffa tape some how fell on the rear numberplate lol
but when i was on the m25 there were road works, which i did slow down, but NOT to 20mph! FFS!!
there was about 1 or 2 guys on the hard shoulder ever 1/2 to 1 mile, inside lane shut off, i was in the outside lane - NO other traffic about so carried on at about 70/80 with the wing mirror angled up to see if any cameras pinged
none did, and i managed 140 miles in 1.5 hours lol
was tucked up in bed at 2.45am....
that was on the south circular from the M23 to the M4, didint see any average speed cameras tho - this was about 2 months ago i guess

some do flash, others don't on that bit of the 25
i was pelting it round towards brighton one night to drop my cousin off and the road signs said "SLOW DOWN"
i didn't and the same thing appeared on the next one
and the next
so i dropped to double figures
the next sing said "THANK YOU" so someone might have been watching

THESE CAMERAS DO WORK!!!!!
I use this route everyday and a couple of weeks ago on the news on a local radio station they reported that official figures show one driver every 30 seconds gets caught for speeding between Jct 8 - 11 of the M1. It was someting rediculous like Ł5m in fines already. I'm not actually sure if each camera is linked to each other or whether they just operate in pairs. I also think the reason you see some people speeding is when they come on at a junction in the roadworks (i.e. Junction 9) obviously in those cases you can't get caught for an average high speed if you haven't yet travelled under a camera so I think people here put their toe down until they hit the first camera post.
However, is it really worth speeding through to get 3 points doing 45 in a 40? Rather save them for when you get stopped at 90 in a 70 and to be fair you can do 40 all the way through, then as soon as you pass the last camera put your toe down and catch up the car that pulled away from you through the roadworks before he hits the national speed limit mark.

There's 3 cameras in each average speed bit IIRC. There was a set of road works near norwich where they put speed cameras in as it was a 30 limit as there was alot of people working on the road. The camera caught 400 people in 4 hours. And in 2 days it generated nearly 23 grand in fines... Speeding through road works just isnt worth it. The cameras are there to protect the workers which I totally agree with.

Also a few weeks ago, where there was a big accident on the A11 roadworks, have heard that 3 workmen has died according to someone.
That's why there is a 30mph speed limit in place - to protect the workmen!
