Default LPG Conversions

As petty prices increasing at the rate of illegal immigrants and dole scroungers; in near future i cant afford running my ST170. So no big deal to most people but i need it to commute to work (no reasonable train routes) so i loose my job an have to work local for a fraction of my current salary.

Relocating i had considered but i just cant afford too move unless its somewhere smaller and shitty like 15 floors up a council crack estate. Oil burners doubt they give real cost advantage over petrol over a quid per litre an say 50mpg still not good enough.

Last option is LPG conversion but i know sqwat about it? they more economical or just lower emmissions? pros and cons anybody?

Fuel is cheaper long term - but you have to set this against the cost of fitting £1500 - £2k unless you can do it yourself.

High mileage drivers, big gas guzzlers, or low mileage people who keep their car for 30 years might see an advantage

aint confident in buying a 200 quid diesel i do a 100 miles round trip to work and reliability is up most to me.

Besides just found out LPG means i get away with congestion charge, lower tax band but some sites say tax is frozen until 2009, some say 2012 and other says it aint frozen at all?

i'd deffo get a diesel mate, atm where i am diesel & petrol is the same price soo the 50 mpg from a diesel would be better than a 25mpg from a st170.

How many miles a year do you expect to do ?

The kits do pay for themselves quicker than you think.

You will lose a few mpg on gas but obviously the fuel is less than half the price of petrol, there is apparently a small loss in power but I've not noticed anything myself.

Drop me a PM if your serious on a conversion

Mondeo TD, pick one up for 400-700 quid.

Extremly reliable and very good on fuel. Cheap as hell to insure too

Lets you keep the ST for enjoying

What do kits retail for these days? Looked into them a while back, very interested again now with a possible run-about change this summer.

Thanks

i'm looking into this too,

the new LPi installations promise to be the bollox, they read the injector pulse from the original car system. so no more error codes or power loss.

average do 25,000 mile a year; just commuting to work

25,000 mile @ 25mpg @ £1 per litre = give up

This is all we fit

old single point kits are a thing of the past

25 k a year makes it a well worthy conversion.

heres a link to the website for who I work for

www.gastech.org.uk

You can look through what is done on a conversion and rough prices on certain vehicles listed. The list of cars that can be done is huge so its best to fill in the quotation form and you will get a reply.

I apoligise if this is against PF rules to advertise

No Probs Lambchop

X5's are a nice car anyway but horrific on petrol, tbh need to be gassed with the price of fuel these days.

No grants currently available for alternative fuels in vehicles whenther business or private.

If yours is a company car I'm not sure if your BiK will go down after you fit an aftermarket LPG kit - I suspect not.

If it is a leased car, the owners may not be happy about you fitting an aftermarket kit - best get their OK in writing before spending any money.

Similarly, not sure what the script will be with your London Congestion charge - it would be too easy for folks to stick an extra fuel cap on the wing and tell TFL the car has been converted!!!

And unless the law has changed, forget about taking your car through the Channel Tunnel (or any of the major UK tunnels) - don't know why, but the gas tanks weren't/aren't legal in there!!
