IIRC the seller had to buy 30 looms from the USA or something on that lines and each loom owes him £300. He's making a loss on each one which is pretty stupid if you ask me. He should have put a reserve on each one he's old.

its quality of work etc too.

for instance my brothers car has had a dingy loom fitted, and the workmanship will be top class.

well worth the money, especially as he fitted it too.

anything under £150 is fookin cheap!

If the workmanship is good.

not too kean on the colours choices.

i would never ever ever sell a loom that cheap, my business would fall flat on its face after the first week and huge losses.

oh how foolhardy

you have to purchase hundreds of the connectors in one go, as there isnt the money it for the supplier to see you 1 or 2.

it'll cost you hundreds, and for what, to prove a point to users of an internet forum who you dont know

Sorry mate,

You obviously havent got a clue how the electronics business functions.

Even after a comment by such a loom maker on this very thread saying
it couldnt be done that cheap.

Not having a go at you but if you buy the connectors, wire and factor in a
the minimum wage for your time spent making it then it would cost you
much more than £100.

If you make one and the quality is good, I will buy it no problem.
Then I would sell it for at least £200 pounds profit easy.

Bring it on

if you make one for less than a hundred quid please let me see it in the flesh and i'll employ you myself.

just out of interet how much wire do you think is in an ECU loom?

and have you any idea what the connector, boots and terminals cost?

and im not talking cheap variations either.

cjbear,

you are forgetting that you cannot just buy the connectors you want to use.

you will have to buy them in a job lot.

15m

closer to 100m in an ECU loom.

3 different sizes.

Also you need screened cable for the Map Sensor, and depending on What ecu also for the CPS and Knock sensor.

Any idea how much an ECU connector is?

Plus 70 odd terminals and the remainding plugs, then boots.

regards the proctive wrap, depends if you want cheap stuff that melts pretty easily or the good stuff, which you can only buy in 100m rolls. opps there goes you budget just on the briad. and you need at least for different size sleevings.

Correct crimping tools?

Heatshrink?

Good quality solder?

Adhesive lined heatshrink?

If you buy in bulk like i do yes you of course you can, but to joe public you wont see any change out of £100 i would imagine.

Radman, there probably isnt

The probably isnt wiring for a lambda sensor aswell.

Also it would fit a 3dr unless you moved the ignition amp.

as there in different places aswell.

Also Water temp sensor is in a different position between a 2wd and a 4x4 car, so that would also be in the wrong position.

RS sell the polyester sleeving - pretty crap. The proper polyamide sleeving is only available in this country from one source, as far as I've found, on 50+m reels.

What sort of money can be earnt working as an employee building looms? I'm looking for a slight career change and am aerospace trained so I know how to loom to high standards just wondering if its a possible avenue to look at....

As for cost of items you want to see the bills for some of the military spec stuff used on aircraft, how about £30-£40 each for some of the smaller plugs, and anything up to £90 for bigger ones

Does anyone that builds looms use idented cables? ie terminal information printed on the wire, or are ends labelled with heat shrink labels?

Quick Reply: Who makes these looms on Ebay??
