PC HELP, USB 2? motherboard drivers???
just got a camcorder that needs usb 2 to conect to the pc
my motherboard has 6 usb 2 ports, but if i plug in the cam or anything, it says, " this device can work faster if you conect it to a usb 2 port, click here to see available ports" when i do theres 6! tryed all 6 on the motherboard, but still the same?
been to asus web and downloaded all the drivers for the mb A7V8X-X but theres no mention on there of usb 2 drivers, so how do i make the usb 2 work?????

Try going back to the above, right click on them and select update drivers.
Not sure if the 4in1 controller form the Asus website will help.
The camcorder should work, but not as fast. Do you have any usb1 or 1.1 items plugged in? If so, maybe try unplugging these and try the cam corder again assuming it is usb2.

Have you got the motherboard support cd? You should be able to install the drivers from there.
Also in BIOS have you selected USB legacy support to Auto?

Fil,
updating the chipset drivers might help (includes USB), asus current version is here (4.43):
ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/4in1_443.zip
Usually the ones from VIA themselves works better and are newer (5.09):
http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VIA_H...nPro_V509A.zip
Install the VIA ones and you might see a difference. If not, use a newer
USB Hub (Voltage might be low of the ports), that might resolve 1.0/2.0 USB issues.

and just before u take that any further, even if Fil installed the proper driver package from Asus, it would still be the old release (see my post from before)
Better question is : Fil, what Service Pack do you have installed ? Rightclick My Computer on your desktop and choose properties.

mmm - I thought I had this problem recently too - tuned out I needed to connect camcorder to the pc via firewire - then when I switched camcorder on it all popped up on the PC and asked what I wanted to do!
Turns out the USB2 port is only for downloading images from the seperate memory card on the camcorder - doesn;t work unless you have a memory card inserted either...
