Default External Wastegates on 2WD Manifold

Hi all

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding external wastegate usage with a 2wd turbo manifold? Obviously replacing it with a tubular item is one option, I guess replacing the second half of it with a tubular on is another, but is there a third option? Not sure modifying cast iron works too well!

I take it it has no boost control as the wastegate take off is at 90 degrees to the gasflow through the exhaust?

Thanks for the response fellas.. I tend to agree with Mike on that adapter Dave, doesn't look particulary effective.. It'd also embed the turbo about 2 inches into the head

I'll have a word about..

Martin's one works very well and was researched and developed by him on Harvey's dyno (as his original version with the take-off at 90° like the one posted, was that SHIT, that you could run it with NO wastegate attached and it would STILL not have ANY effect on boost reduction ). This is where proper R&D comes into it's own, and the design Martin's finally put into production can reduce the boost down to 1 bar (GT35) with the gate full open .

SUPERB well proven and tested advice from Dave, as ever

Also that wastegate flange will only bolt on to homo lil wastegates too, so would need to adapt it anyhow.

If it wasnt for the fact its badly designed.

And would make the turbo not fit AT ALL

Yes, but so are most standard internal wastegates in normal turbos.

'tis a tool for experimentation...

That design is intended for the Tial 38mm wastegate, as we just did this for a customer who wanted this wastegate for a GT3071 .

Blatant advertising plug - but who cares

This can get the boost down to 6psi at 7000rpm with a GT30 .

hmm, again, if you happen to read people posts in depth and not just skim reading, its sounds like he is experimenting, ref, the three options he said...even to the point of drilling as cast welding the standard manifold..

So not as bad as you would think...

And, where does it mention what size turbo he is using?

Here is my Reyland one on the engine. Works totally fine and more importantly for me its been RELIABLE with no cracking like alot of the tubular ones were doing at the start.

Cheap as well

I must say Mikes one looks awesome and I may well get one of those just for bling factor

Fair enough Phil. You are entitled to it...

Like MOST of your opinions, its totally wrong and BULLSHIT THOUGH

Car ran with normal brake set up for 2 years with no problems. Thats on TRACK as well. Pretty sure my Turbo set up AND Brake set up gets ALOT hotter on a track session than yours did on the saff driving to the shops and wheelspinning outside of schools trying to impress the kids

Heres a pic

Just for your information the PJ one requires you to lengthen your exhaust and you have to cut the damper lugs off the 2wd head to fit...the Reyland one fits like a T4 and NO mods as said (obviously drop alternator bracket required)...although its time consuming doin the many other custom mods!!!!

Phil, it doesnt worry me having to modify the exhaust, already had to have it extended once to fit the 2wd manifold.

same again needing the alternator drop bracket.... all easy stuff

Thing is JC's manifold was not mentioned on this thread and mine is yet you still mentioned the welds cracking Lots of time and effort was put into the final design of my product and i would hate to think that people reading this thread woulld think (as i would) that you mean the Reyland type cracked. Perhaps you should mention who actually made JC's??
Just my 2p worth!
