Default Getting car ready for some more BHP!

Have been doing some prep work for extracting some more BHP from my engine..

have been messing around with my breather system as i dont think the bailey one is up to much on high powered engines runing tons of boost..

the pics look shit but im just trying to improve on bailey design and have spoken to another company about getting a better one made.

have changed the configuration of the bailey so that it now breathes out of the turbo side of the block (as i now believe it should)rather than using that as a return, and the cam cover and the standard position...

initial testing seems to be positive.

ignore the bottles as they are there just to see if anything actually comes out.

what do people think about this, as you never seem to get a definate answer on the best breather set ups??

should be better once the new seperator and aero hoses are on

next phase is my new exhaust..

picked up my down pipe today..

what you guys think?

4"

having the rest of the system made up in twin 3"..

the exhaust combined with some more mapping and the cams set up should see another 30 BHP on top of my figure just now

Turbo outlets are rarely even 3in, and you know how 3in systems are important.

And hell, inside the turbo the space is MILES less than at the outlet.

Backpressure.

I am not the best person to explain it matt but i have seen AVA testing exhaust on various high power cars an they know this works...

in a standard off the shelf cossies exhaust(magnex, mongoose) there is back pressure in the exhasut at anythin gover 300 ATW...

i have mega back pressure at 400..

Alan and Tom at AVA worked out the theoretical size the exhaust needs to be an this is the best way to try and achive it.

reduction in back presssure is only a good thing and i wont have the T4 for ever

not being smart btw steve......
wont be any back pressure though if outside the exit is larger?
backpressure.......ive read both for and against
always remember bicknells grey escort needing shit loads more fuel putting in the map after the larger exhaust was fitted...think ive just answered my own q there!

Loving the spring water bottle, dont you just love that stuff, fresh and cold out of the fridge, let alone used as a breather catch tank....

M.A.Developments have done a system thats good up to arround 900bhp.
We tried the best from the rest & even got another well known supplier of Breathers to solve our probs. They didnt.

Rod,

What breather system were you using with your old 504 bhp set-up and was it effective?

Rod is your current set up breathing from the cam cover, the standard postion and the turbo side then the first tank is a seperator and the second a catch tank?

Both tanks are breather/seperators, the first is the main one the second is there for when the first is over powerd, Only the second returns to the sump, Both have a lot more going on on the inside than it looks .

Rod was using a spec r unit before on his old engine and it worked very well ,
With the new spec long stroke engine and the NOS we needed something a little more , 99% of the engines running this kind of power would be on a dry sump set up.

Euan you're like a woman! At knockhill you had decided that gaining an extra 30bhp WASN'T worth the time and money
I said you'd do it

Good choice

TBH Euan, the car sounds fast enough as it is/was from all accounts. Awesome machine, wish I'd had a good look at it at Knockhill

think for high HP applications its advisable to have a swirl and a catch tank seperate, like rods setup, rather than an all in one item.

correct?

i have a very similar setup to rods.

dont think i have ever seen a breather system with a swirl pot?

there should be a seperator and a catch tank, but a swirl pot?

you mean for the coolant system?
