I use McAfee personal firewall, never had any problems with it myself.

Black Ice is also a good reliable firewall.

Same here - can't say I have ever had grief with Zone Alarm . I admit you need to have a decent active virus scanner (AVG for me) and it helps to have a real time spyware scanner aswell (I use SpywareGuard which works a treat and you never know it's even on untill it shows up in the ALT-TAB thingy when you switch windows )

zone alarm is doing things i don't want it to do, its not as configurable as i need it to be, and it's hogging up shedloads of bandwith and stopping things working i need to work.

All ports by a few certain ones are blocked on the router too!

How often does average joe actually need to use a personal firewall? If you know what your doing on the net theres no point!

Dont click on pop up banner ads and dont look at free porn sites and you automatically remove the risk of spyware by about 99%!

A good virus checker such as NOD32 (I cant rate it highly enough!) is all you need!

There is no need for software firewalls IMO on home pc's.

There just for lazy cunts who dont wanna think about what there clicking on!

i disagree. have you watched how many times per hour you get attacked?

with broadband and PCs on 24/7 its VERY common.

i get hit without about 80-90 attacks per hour. most of them for easy exploits that MS fixed years ago, but people do still try, they just scan random IP pools till they hit something they can infect or get access to.

In all honesty mate whats the chances of your machine actually getting hacked from the outside and them actually getting in? IE not due to you having trojans or other backdoor shit installed? Fuck all!

You don't NEED a personal firewall IF you use a properly configured hardware firewall.

You absolutely 100% need to use some form of firewall though, running without one is just crazy.

netbios is a protocol used for file n print sharing.

itll happen about 5 times per minute if youre on broadband

Fuck me Jim, you're paranoid mate. So what if you're getting "scanned" every few seconds? Virtually no-one's going to be able to damage your system as long as you're patched up.

I have NO complaints at all about the XP/Server 2003 firewall.

Stop whingeing, and stop using ZA - it's 99% a load of old, scare-mongering shite, and the other 1% is a pretty standard firewall effort!

Agnitum Outpost Pro is the only firewall I will use. Used Kerio for a while last year which I also recommend but I much prefered Outpost so I went back to that

Any anyone running no firewall is asking for trouble imo especially if you do any online shopping/banking. There is alot of little script kiddie's out there (and clever little fuckers at that) who can & will cause havoc on your system. Why make it easier for them to hack/infect your PC
