FWD 0-60 Whats the fastest possible?
What do you think the fastest possible 0-60 time would be with a fwd car, say a fiesta?
The car could have any power figure you choose......just say what you think.
Get into the low 5's late 4's?

car weight one thing. (think theres about 50kg in a standard car difference)
and also suspension design
Karl has said before it puts it down better due to overhang and weigth balance apparently.

Look the point of this thread was someone on another forum has claimed a 0-60 of low 4's high 3's in a Z-S with a 2.0 turbo conversion by SV ( admittedly it's a well specced lovely car), but......
I just cant believe that a fwd car will be that quick.......what say you?

You can get any time you like.... providing you have enough money and time to do it.
personally I think a drag car flat head engined fiesta would do the 0-60 rather quickly
But who is going to build one!!!

You cant get any time you like, there is a limit that a car powered by the front wheels only will be able to obtain.
All due to weight transfer and distribution. On a road car with road tyres getting anything in the high 4's is probably the best you will ever get. Then it becomes pointless getting anymore power because you will just suffer more and more wheel spin and get no grip.

overhang surely more overhang would be better if anything because of weight over the wheels????? I would say because the escort is longer with more weight at the back???? thats why fiesta's would be better?????

paul220 i completely totally and utterly disagree with you...
youre basing your comments on the shit standard of cars we generally have over here in the UK...
there is no reason you cant make a FWD car do a 0-60 just as fast as a RWD or 4WD car... just because you never see anything on the road thats set up to do this kind of thing, doesnt mean its not possible..

Ok. heres an example.
You have two cars, both identical, same weight , same power, same type of tyres on.
However one is fwd, and one is rwd.
Both launch at 4000rpm. Now the weight transfer will put most of the weight on the back wheels, pushing them into the road. The RWD will grip better and be faster. The fwd will have the weight taken off its driven wheels and will suffer loss of grip to a greater extent.
Theres a physical limit to how fast a fwd can be. No matter what the power. IF this wasnt the case. Why isnt Andy Nichols running the same first 1/8th mile the same as say Norris evo? Cus it runs the same last 1/8th.

i have no idea what im talking about but from what i can see if Paul R can get a 4 sec to 60 in his mk3 with a zetec turbo with less than 300bhp. Why cant a mk5 with a much better suspension setup as std and an unkown power figure do it in less than 4 sec??

Its a basis of physics though mate
you're assuming that the weight MUST transfer to the back wheels and that the front end has to loose grip... it doesn't, we simply assume it does becasue you dont often see FWD drag cars... and all the cars we do see squat as a result of acceleration...
the basic principles of grip and weight transfer show us that this doesn't HAVE to happen

just becasue andys hasn't, doesnt mean its impossible

Last time my 0-60's were recorded they were still low 5's. Not going into excuses ..tyres, driver etc etc etc. Hope to improve them as time goes on. Hardly ever have time to practice this sort of thing as the car is always ready at the last minute in the past hence never have enough time to practice. Alot of FWD 0-60 is suspension, tyres, gearing and more importantly driver not power!
Never said it was however making a point that it was a Fiesta so you never know it might actually be. #
So far fastest RST 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile ET, 1/4 terminal speed and top speed times are and have been for ages Fiesta's!

LOL@ Hansenturbo. Your in the wrong country dude.
Besides I have no one to blame but myself as tyres were shit and I had no practice launches at the time. Wasn't too bothered as I never build or geared it for 0-60 however will be trying my best to get best times as possible.

Looks like IF this is true (ie PROPER road legal without wheely bars, drag tyres etc etc etc) then they're putting the EVERYONE (including all the 4x4 cossie boys, skylines and even the JAP drag skylines to shame). You got anything to back this up with Ding....a link?
Thanks - Sunny.
