Default Norris Motorsport Stage1 Gunship Chip

Hi, just read a post on the RSOC boards about Stage1 to 3 chips etc....and some guy said that forget a Stage 3 conversion, the best thing about was a Norris Stage1 Gunship tune, costs around £300 and boosts up to 22psi in mid range. Any one recomend it or argue the toss for the Stage3 over this set up ?

Very good conversion, ask Tiff

So is the stage 3, just depends what you want, i`d go stage 3 myself, but depends on your budget

stage 3 is always going to be better - but pricier as you need MAP sensor and injectors.

Karl just ups the fuel pressure on they std injectors to get the fuel, and probably jets the amal valve for mid range boost. Good conversion for the cash

I recently had a drive in Doug Stirlings run around sapphire cossie
with the NMS stage 1 gunship conversion and I must say I was well
impressed with just how well it went.

370 now is it? Fair play - awesome car

Doubt it's his only form of transport though

Remeber back in the day when u bolted some NOS on the old engine. 25 shot wasn't it? Most powerful RST of the day i think wasn't it? Ahead of Chad's 192 @ wheels black car.

If/When i get another Cosworth, it will have a NMS Stage 1 Gunship conversion............AND THATS IT

It is THE best conversion for a Cossie imho and i dont know anyone that has been out in a car with one fitted that wasnt VERY VERY suprised

Fortunatly me and Pops have an EVO version of this that Karl WILL NOT do for anyone as it was a develpment chip at the time and it allowed Karl to tweak the "Gunship" chip that he now uses

But the Conversion is VERY close to what we had and it is SUPERB

People think they know what Karl does to achive the power/figures that this gets but trust me, it is alot more than people think

If you look in Performance Ford you will see the stats for this conversion in the power write-up in the middle........Compair the figures to cars with a bigger spec

Go for the Gunship

So what are my options : I have my standard L1 Ecu with Stg1 chip, i also have an L6 Ecu with a Stg3 chip. Could NMS fit a Gunship to my L6 or do i stay L1.

I was the said 'Guy' along with someone else on there who has the Gunship conversion, and stated performance for the pound then this is a great conversion.

------------------------------------------------

what i said -

NMS Stage 1 Gunship is the way ahead mate. Normal Stage 1 runs about 15-16 psi boost. Karl will map your car on the road and adjust everything to suit your car. Will boost up to 22-23 psi through the midrange then drop of as the revs get higher, this varies in each gear. This is a far superior set up than buying a stage 1 chip of the shelf.
You do not need to change anything either. If your actuator is working correctly then it won't be changed. Performance for the pound, this is the best conversion money can buy.
----------------------------------------------------

and then -

------------------------------------------------------------
No problem mate.

You won't regret the Gunship. Its nearly as fast as a stage 3 through the gears, its only top end that is reduced.

Let the stage 3 guys pay for uprated turbo's, intercoolers, injectors, actuators, clutch, brakes and the re-map........you pay around £300 and nothing else.....makes sense to me. And you can change back to standard in a matter of minutes.

I have the standard chip in the glovebox.

More people should consider this tune, but there appears to be a fascination with a Stage 3 set-up.

------------------------------------------------------------

And I stand by what I said, i was letting this lad know about the Gunship. If you did not believe what i stated then you could habe PM'd me.

At no point did I say forget the Stage 3.

If you read the post, you will see that the guy wants to keep his car as standard as possible.....IMO this is the best route for him to take.

I'm not disputing what you said, just didn't feel i had to copy your page word for word, in fact i have looked at NMS site before and seen no mention of Gunship at all so i never even knew it existed till i accidentally stumbled across the RSOC post. It's not a case of not believing you, i have got what i hoped i would, and that is a number of favourable responses to back up what you claimed - so thanks!

Ok mate, I just read it as if you were questioning what I said and the fact that I did not say forget about the Stage 3.

No problem

It is on there mate, been there for a few years......

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taken from the NMS site

Stage 1+ (Gunship Conversion)

This is a recent development of the stage 1 conversion and takes the std engine to an even higher state of performance. This conversion however can only be performed on original engines in excellent health or those which have undergone a complete rebuild. Likewise the turbo must be in excellent condition and preferably be fitted with a 360degree thrust bearing. Again a new "chip" is fitted to the ECU along with a Garret -31 actuator, and suitable plugs fitted and gapped if required. For 2wd cars I advise the fitment of a 4X4 Sapphire Intercooler. Coupled with a full setup and alterations to the mapping as required to suit your car, this allows the car to run in excess of 22psi between 2500rpm and 5000rpm, then dropping to 17psi by 6000rpm and finally tailing to 14psi at the 7000rpm limiter. This setup normally results in around 295bhp/320lbf ft

Karl mapped mine with closed loop and set up to pass mot as I still have the CAT's fitted.

There was no extra charge for the closed loop set up.

its not gay all!

the car once done absolutely flies, so why not call it gunship?

I dont think NMS Harrier Jump Jet conversion has the same ring to it

I had a slightly different version of the gunship on my old sapph.

ran 4x4 cossie blues and a hybrid T34.

i loved it myself, shame my new cossie has a low comp engine otherwise i'd get it again.
