Yeah.. but Dave..

For the money you paid for the Bhan-Stormer.... you wouldnt be up against a Stage III Cossie...

It would be 400-450BHP...

And a 3 door / RS500 / Escort Cossie would get more admiring glances every day of the week....

And just looking at another post....

Perhaps you and Phil could start up a Barn-stormers meet...... in kent.... very near his house......

I heard a rumour from a BMW technician that the early E46 M3's that were limited to 156mph would pass that if you went for it in 5th gear instead of 6th, this was due to the software in the ECU for the limiter not being written properly

I raced a 46 M3 in my old stage 3 saff at the Pod, and we had near identical times........

I'd say easily as fast as a stage 3 saff, with the added benefit of not looking like some pikeyed up twat whilst doing it

...not good though is it Pon..a 3k shitter as fast as a 40k Beemer

My own M3 is about stage 3 performance 4x4...not as quick as the 2wd though...my ECU is goin to Stu for a chip to raise it to 340bhp..same as the std E46 M3

Yes, but if you had both cars sat in front of you, and you had to choose one to take home with you, and you voluntarily took the cossie..........

....... well it says everything doesn't it.

Thing is though Gareth my M3,348 and XJR feel very lathergic compared to my Saff...which is really odd to me majority think you have to have production high end cars to go fast WRONG very wrong

but you can't beat the look on a ferrari/porsche/BMW/Insert overpriced snobs brand here/ owners face when they get taken to peices by an F plate sierra It amazes me how many people on here are slating cossies I thought it was called passion ford, not hateford

Cossies were always and will always be about cheap power- no one is saying that they are as well built/exclusive as a lot of cars out there, but how easy are cossies to work on? hlaf the attraction of a cossie for me is that I can do 99% of the work on it myself, and learn how it all works

Same here mate - that's why I bought my first saff.

I wanted a car that was very fast and cost very little.

Now we're all getting older, some of us have started to "grow up", and want the same performance, but with none of the drawbacks of owning something like a saff cossie.

Yes, the cossie may be faster on the motorway from 70-140, but that's not where it's at for me and a lot of other people anymore.

I like my cars to go round corners, and the BM will make the cossie look more than slightly out of its depth. Couple that with the looks, the badge, the stigma, the state of a lot of people who drives saffs (e.g ) and the reasons to choose something like a saff cossie over an M3 are still limited to straight line performance.

e36 would struggle though, raced one last summer and I started in second so he got a head start but I ate that up, missed the gear change going to 3rd but once in third I gained fast again. Would still love to have a m3 as a daily driver.

It's interesting about the badge. Round Cheshire/manchester you say u have an m3 and it won't raise an eyebrow - as they are everywhere. Say cossie, or even RS - people are always really interested and want to know more. I probably haven't seen a cosworth in 3 months apart from when going to cheshire meet - u never see them. i'm always getting asked about my lowly s2 in petrol stations etc - last time was a guy in an X5 who wanted to buy it lol.

why do people think cossies have bad road performance...

why do people think cossies are only fast in straight line...

most of them are modified with new shocks, bushes..springs...

i think a modified cossie with the things ive mentioned isnt slower in a corner then an m3...

Sorry to hear you are growing up Richard within 6 months you will be sticking to speed limits & calling the RS crew Chavs.
Im 60 & still prefer the Saff to an M3. Had a e30 M3 evo on my drive & it was a nice car to drive, but didnt compare in any way to my Saff even round corners.

LOL - I already DO call the RS crew chavs, as too many of them are!

Bottom line is, if you're corner orientated, out the box, the M3 will be spectacular in the right hands (i.e. not Dave's ) on track, against the cossie which will be average.

You only have to do an RS track day to see the ones having the most fun are generally the lowly powered RS1800s and the like that have to really hustle their cars, or the cars that are setup well, handle well, or slide well.....

Rod - your is different as it's a project car and a one-off. We're referring to daily drivers for fast road use....... and even an E36 has something like a saff cossie licked pound for pound.....

I would have loved to have my old Stage III Sapphire in 343bhp format (Grp A T3), where it had the brakes, rear beam and 380lb ft of torque. Your arse (as it usually IS ) would be mine on road, track or Santa Pod . In 385bhp format, you wouldn't even have seen which way I had gone .
