Standard cosworth oil cooler?

Is it really needed at all? I know ford fitted it there for a reason, but honestly, does it serve a purpose?

And can I run the engine without one?

bttt - need to know before I goto ford in the morning and order the bolt that goes between the cooler and block/filter

is it connected to the water system? If so, it helps to warm the oil up much quicker than without.

as said, just gets the oil upto temp quicker, so imho very worthwhile to have fitted.
