After seeing everyone pull together to Help maria in much the same light as they did to help Jim, offering money and help. would it be an idea to set up a paypal account for PF, and maybe just have peeps payin if they want to etc, sort of like a Passionford kitty. So if a member has a problem, an expensive one, a vote can be taken and they can have an ammount towards the cost out of what would be all of our kitty. Just a thought.

Unless you use the account as a "Loan" and ask people to pay it back monthly or something... Then its not a charity case and Im sure people will be more helpful towards donating...

 

good idea but cant see it working really... What if someones cossie goes bang and some contributions are paid... then someone elses RST does the same, and a different amount is contributed.... Some people will get funny that others will benefit more than themselves. Or what if your car is 100% reliable and never benefit!!! I know its voluntary but this needs to be taken into consideration...

yeah, but is it fair tho that for what ever reason the majority of peeps are offering financial support to help build a cossie engine (i have had 2 so know the costs) when i can almost be 100% certian if i had a cossie engine go on me tomorrow i would not get the same support? so all i am saying is to make it a fairer type thing that regardless if a memeber needs help then the community we have created will be in a position to help more of the people more of the time type of thing,

You'll get people saying 'you've got loads of money, why should we donate', and on the other hand, you'll always get spongers.... Everyone on here has different financial circumstances so would be very difficult to get a happy medium.

No disrespect whatsoever on Maria as shes been VERY unlucky (and she is wel fit!), but at the end of the day, we all buy these cars knowing that we could be faced with huge maintenance costs, so if we cant afford them, we shouldnt have them.... I will be happy to donate though to Maria this time for some rudey pics!!

In a way Gra, you have proved my point. You probably wouldnt get the same support.
My cossie engine has blown up only a couple months after buying it, it needs to be rebuilt and I have found my T4 in need of a 500 pound service. No one could give to shits. That aint fair

THAT is why their will be conflict IF there is a voting system. I know majority rules but I can see there being looooooads of arguments over it. Also imagine the amount of people who would put their name foward to be considered. Me for one!!!!!!

People want to give Maria money.............let them..........does it affect the people who dont want to??..........no.

Passionford providing the service so people dont just send Ł20 notes in the post is a good idea, but a kitty with a vote, IMHO is not.

 

also if yu had a kitty. say you put in 20 quid, then I broke my engine, people like me so they say give him some cash( I wish ), you hate me and disagree that the money should go to me because I am stinking rich (again, I wish ).

You can see how arguments would easily start and the idea would soon get scrapped IMO.

 

My opinion for what its worth.

Funds setup for the sole reason of helping out folks in unfortunate circumstances would simply cause trouble amongst existing users with topics such as "Well he got a gearbox and ive more posts than him" and also have folk joining for the sole reason of ripping us off and earning themselves a fast buck.

I think it should be left alone and leave it to operate as it is now, a "Community"

Simple example to prove thats what we have developed:
Q). If Maria was a newbie user with 5 posts, would anyone really care about her plight?
A). NO.

So why do we care about Maria?
We do because shes a part of the community and we see her as a friend, a familiar face in our day to day lives whos fell on hard times due to her car/passion, just like a neighbour / workmate.

Did the fact she is good looking help? Easy to say yes, because she is, but im going to say NO. Why? Because Jim had a similar amount of help when he fell unlucky and his car burnt out and most the peeps offering to help were heterosexual males.

Leave the PF community as it is and let it grow further, its come a long way in a short time and the only financial things i want to worry about is how Petrucci and myself pay for its existence... its far too soon for a PF benevolent fund...

Great idea though in concept, and my opinion is not necessarily correct, but its there all the same
