Default OK, daft question perhaps, but is there any car....

That can do 0-60 in around 7 secs, with a 130ish top speed that will still return considerably more than 50/60 miles on a tenner? Just with the new job I'd like better economy due to my increased mileage but I don't want a complete slouch.

Impossible task? I'm talking used cars up to the £2k mark. Cheers for any help.

Yeah suppose you could get a 306 and play with the fuel pump like i did. Quick little motors and great to chuck about!

Maybe you'd get better fuel economy if you didn't do 130mph on your way to work

LOL I don't intend to. I'll be crawling on the motorway each way

I was talking about it's all round capabilities, not what I intend to drive it like at any time.

What bhp is the passat Rick? Think ou can get the 130's there if nto get it chiped and deffo. I know 0-60s are the stongest of points with dervs as you got to change gear so often

Yours the new style Passat? How does it compare with the last one like i got out of interest..

30 on the way too work, 100 on the way home is a good compromise

Anything like a mondeo / laguna should sort you out ok.

The reps put up with them for years

Cavalier GSi - XE'd so decent fuel consumption, 150 odd bhp, comfy and they look hard as nails. Not very Fordly suggestions, but I've always had a soft spot for Cav GSi's...

I don't mind a 100-130k'er as my petrol is 122k. I don't expect anything perfect for the money.

Rhys

The handling is a million times better, it's 140hp. The engine is a lot smoother, the 52 plate was really snatchy, all the torque then nothing. 16v revs a bit better, and sounds slightly less harsh. Brakes aren't as stupidly sensative either.

You can get half decent 306 Hdi's for under £3k if you can stretch the budget a bit?

Not sure you'll get down to 7 0-60 but they're not a bad motor.

old merc's? c250td ?

My old 405 Mi16 would crack 135 and get there reasonably quick, and it ALWAYS did 30mpg.

Good luck finding one though - mine was shagged when i sold it, and the track day 205 nutters are all too willing to rip them to bits

The beemer is giving me 30mpg roughly tbh

But the diesel is closer to 40. After one of Stu's chips it should be fairly fun to drive and still a better return than the petrol.

Jay, try a BMW 525TDS SE on about a '95, mileage isn't really an issue for them, very decent level of comfort, good resale, good MPG, but can still go when you stick your foot down, can look pretty cool, and you'll pick one up for less than 2 grand. Get an auto one though.

Same engine as the 325 though, so I imagine the 325 would have a slight edge in the weight stakes?

my cav turbo does around 65 miles to a tenner although on the fuel computer it says average of 28mpg, not bad for a big 200bhp turbo car.

id go for a cav gsi aswell,

uncle had a burgandy one, looked ok once id lowered it and put the 17s on- went well to thank to a stage 2 chip, filter, 4-2-1 and straight through, with a ported head to finish up,

would easily hit an indicated 140, then pissed of the clock, i think they handle ok to,

and, always returned 30-35 no mater how much abuse

My Fiesta Si 2.0 16v does 200 miles to a tank (35 quid of optimax) . Has done 6.7 to 60 and 135 at brunters before with more to come once i finally swap my shitty std management for the Pectel T2 i have .

Mines far from std so with a std engine you would probably get better mpg. BillyCabrios std 2.0 16v fez was doing 0-60 in the 7's i think.
