It is NOT totally self mapping, but is a good EMS

RobbieS who occasionally uses this site has it on his vauxhall engine which just made 528bhp@1.6 bar on the dyno.

Not that ecu's really effect peak power figures much TBH but it sounds impressive still, lol

you can even see the poster for it in the background, lol

I had a good chat wih them at the autosport show this year and had a play with their mapping ssoftware when i got home. I liked it and they are very reasonably priced.

I'm not sure why more people over here don't use it? Maybe just lack of exposure?

Ive just mapped had a BMW E46 engine with it , its cheap enough , now they even offer an alloy cased ECU so it doesn't look like a tupperware box with Maplins bits in it .

Ive not raced anything with less than 500 bhp since 2003 so im sure the BMW will be a massive let down but i only did it to get a more reliable car that can be used in more places .
it was QEP that set me up with it , my fault really as the car i bought originally ran KMS in the lunch box format ,i wanted a the newer one that stood a chance of lasting .

Eh? Who mentioned looks?

I just want to know why you think it is well engineered and a nice ECU as you have some experience in design and construction of said kit.

Just spoke to QEP who are the UK distributors for KMS

The ecu has loads of functions including lambda auto tune, gear/boost control, ALS, launch, Nos control, Water inj control etc.

Also uses a USB connector too

It ran well, the ecu is well built and the wiring is braided and very durable. The main downsides are it can only run low impedance injectors and I would say that its not the easiest thing to tune diy.

From a tuning software point of view MS is much easier and effective to use

Lee at Devil did a nice map on mine. Ran smooth, started sweet from cold, was fast...i took it back after a while asking for a bit more fuel economy...did it on the road and yep, it was cheaper on the motorway cruise after that.

Clake 5700 on here uses it, maps it and car runs nicely. He's since fitted it to a Starlet turbo too and seems good. He will be on here and see this later no doubt.

Lee at Devil Developments loves the kit and is the best guy to speak to, he's fitted it to a few big power Zetec turbos and a Cossie.

Who is going to be mapping the ecu? If doing it diy i would suggest MS or the other MS based ecu that chip uses, just soley for the ease of tuning. Although saying that the KMS does work well once mapped, as does any ecu, its just not the easiest interface to work with.
To tune fuel you have to increase and decrease bar graphs for each rpm or load area (selectable) not an easy task to keep it in one area at a time! and when its out of that particular area you cant see where it is! There supposedly is a 3d graph on the newer versions which is a far better way of tuning on the road IMO, that is the way you do it in megatune, by "raising" or "lowering" the hieght of the graph at a given load area, visually you can see the map far better this way and also your current load in relation to where you are tuning.
Also there was a few features the KMS lacked when compared with MS, one of which was the required fuel ability, also the accel enrichment was not the best, and you have no intergral map sensor so have to use and external one and calibrate it, which is not the easiest thing to do accuartly and when you have done you have no real pressure numbers in KPA (like ms) only load cell numbers. Also the coolant and air temp sensors have to be compatable with the ecu, you cannot match ANY sensor to your ecu like MS with bias resistors.
You can compare the KMS to microsquirt with its capabilitys, except microsquirt is cheaper and has better software and infinate free internet support (around £320 for microsquirt) but bare in mind, unlike megasquirt, microsquirt has no integral map sensor.

here is a link to a microsquirt ecu on ebay, factory built and tested with loom ready to fit, and with very similar features to KMS
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Megasquirt-2-Microsquirt-ECU-and-loom-/320719023953?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM& hash=item4aac57ef51
But personally i would use something like MS2 version 3 as i am in my current car, at only £210 for the kit (if your handy with a soldering iron!)

how did i miss this?? lolol yes i have kms on my zetec turbo ive also just got in from mapping a kms on an escort turbo also done a bit more light throttle loads on a friends kms powered starlet turbo.

softwair is good imo you dont have to map using the bar graphs as it has a 3d map as well as the open grid set up as more people are used to, all tho i tend to use the bar graphs its easy to fined out where you are on the map just hit the space bar

Ive tryed my hand at megasquirt and tbh i fucking hate it if i put more time i could get my head round it but for ease of use i like kms.

it will run low and high imp injectors btw as well as alot more other features like boost control traction control boost limiting gear dependent that i will be setting up on my friends starlet soon

Yeah there is lots of set up options due to the flexability of it i suppose, at the end of the day an ecu is an ecu and they all do very similar things. Im selling my ms on the bay just now to, buy it now though not bidding
