FAO Porkie- D1. (Some "very close to the wall" pic
Remember on that other post I said there was a few things done I didnt think was possible, and you asked in what way, well just found some pics...
Check this, this is Brooklands corner, so the car is travelling from RIGHT to LEFT of this pic, at 100mph+
Thats like 120deg to the direction of travel
Even 90deg is next to impossible without spinning, esp at speed, but 120deg I didnt think was possible full stop, never ever seen that before, but this guy was managing it all the time, and therefore was hitting the first clipping point on the inside of the corner with ease.
So there you go, had to see it really, but I was standing with a few people who compete in Eurodrift etc and even they couldnt believe it was possible, amazing.

Cool.
Somewhere I've seen a vid clip of a rally driver on a hairpin.
He throws it round and the car is actually going exactly backwards for a bit before fucking off out of the bend. Mental stuff...

Slightly (understatment of the year) easier doing it on Ice/Gravel at under 60mph to doing it on Tarmac at 100mph+ on 265wide tyres tho
Never seen anything like it ever, still cant quite fathom in my head exactly how he wasnt spinning, but hey, hes now my hero
Click here for larger versions of the above pics, so can see wheel clearer and so on...

No vid footage of it, Option own exclusive video footage to all D1 events so nothing ever appears barring on Option DVDs.
What he was doing was similar to in that rally vid, but at about 3 times the speed, and not locked wheels, was off the charts.
Lot easier to do what he did in the rally vid due to 4wd pulling you out of it.

The only reason I asked if the rear wheels were locked is that you don't necessarily spin straight off if all four wheels are locked at the same time.
I'm guessing the momentum of the vehicle simply overcomes any forces acting ...........
Must look incredible in the flesh - I used to be able to drive like that on Sega Rally

MarkB- Not yet, not seen those pics as the report aint gonna be in yet.
Obviously im not fluent in Jap, but know enough of the people to get this much info...
At Rockingham the Jap judges wanted the course changed a bit to make it harder as it was too easy in their eyes, but that made it too hard for UK peeps so they changed it back.
At Silverstone you got no choice of track really, they dont seem to mind it, but its pretty easy for them, and nice and fast, but the gravel traps make it a bit gay, concrete walls to get as close to as poss are much better
The Jap judges made it harder at Silverstone by making the first clipping point on the inside just after brooklands, that made it so hard that I dont think a single European car hit that, esp on the Saturday, but the Japs were just doing crazy shit like that 120deg angles so could hit it easy.

Renton says on style and angles and stuff they can compete Chip, BUT when it comes to the twin drifting the japs are on another planet speed wise.
Steve will say if thats right or wrong.

The best of the UK lot are amazing, but Japs are still better, most of that is car spec (Jap lot have got so much grip, 265/275 wide tyres and almost zero camber, mental) and tactics tho.
On practice sesh where the Jap and UK lot were out together you could see the UK ones noticably improving just by watching the lines etc the Japs took, makes you up your game a lot more where the competition is harder.
Tactics meant that the Jap lot totally destroyed the UK cars in the twin drifting tho, they miles faster, with 160bhp AE86s pulling away from 400bhp+ UK cars...
Japs been doing this as a sport since the late 70s tho.
Almost as good in some respects, Phil for example was entering the first corner just as fast and initiating the drift just as early as Kazama who is world champ, but Kazama stayed going that fast the whole time...
EDIT- Porkie jus beat me

I mean how old is competition drifting in this country really, especially on this scale of speed.

Was running 235wide R888s on the front, about the same as everyone else was running.
Heres a thread about it here, and reasons from people who CAN drift on how he was managing it, way better than just us guessing, lol...
http://www.driftworks.co.uk/forum/sh...ad.php?t=19420
Heres another from a similar viewpoint, and he was better than the others TBH (in a 160bhp car!)...

Forgot to say, Kawabata managed it a couple of times...
