Steve, other regular podders, your comments please!

278 BHP Caterham beats RC Developments 920 BHP EVO twice on strip............Like WTF????????

Is it all to do with weight of the cars, or what?

Doug its a weight issue that Cateram probabaly has 560bhp per tonne and only runs power to 2 wheels

The EVO wouldnt be much different if you add up the weight/BHP...at a guess the Caterham is about 500kilos the EVO is 1500kilos??So about the same power to weight?

BUT the EVO would kick but from 100 plus MPH

R500 EVO Caterham is over 40k as I remember.... alot of money for a little k Series and a bit of Carbon fibre but MAD value when you consider how much of a weapon it is!

If you actually read the post, hes SLOWER than the EVO, just got to the end quicker by launching on green rather than waiting till they ready like everyone else does.

Power to weight and grip, all there is to it, and that coffin dodgem seems to have a lot.

Aerodynamics dont really come into it much at that speed, and the thing did well.

EVO did a 10.25@143 compared to the Caterhams 10.5@131, and over 10mph shows a fair difference in power/weight ratio.

EVO probably weighs even in its current state around 1400kg, compared to 550kg probably of the caterham.

Dont belive the EVOs power figures really either as dont belive for a second 27% of an engines power can be lost (ie transferred to heat energy) thru the transmission.

From what i heard the EVO wasnt launching that well and with 60fts closer to what theyd expect id of been in the 9s.

LOL@
It was running on pure methanol at 2.3bar boost which meant the sweltering heat didn't effect its performance
WTF! The heat would have a massive effect, fuck knows what he is on about there.

Im still unconvinced the EVO is truly running pure methanol myself too...

But anyhow, the caterham is fucking fast, it got to the end sooner, but it deffo aint faster than the EVO, was 0.2secs slower on the ET and over 10mph slower terminal speed.

Mid 10 with only a 130mph terminal speed shows how well it launches too, harder than most 4wds can, as 130mph is pretty low for the ET for a road car.

Wonder what tyres it used?

But as the times show, the EVO would still pull away at pretty much any speed.

You get a LOT of performance for 40k, tho you dont get much of a car! Id prob prefer a mental modded motorbike and 30k in my back pocket, lol

If you just concerned about the 1/4mile time theres a few standard cars (IMO!) you can buy and mod to do road legal mid 10s for about half the price of the Go-Kart too

Also, how come Mk 2 Escorts (RWD) launch so well and put up good 1/4 times??

Are these cars that are good for/optimised for 1/4 runs and nothing else?

Mk2s launch so well and do good times at the dragstrip do they?

Might wana watch Dingy run and rethink that statment

Dont think Mk2s do are anything special in general, but soft suspension, appropriate gearing, decent geometry, and good tyres and diff is what you need for grip, and a lot of modded RWD escorts have that, and they pretty light.
