gearbox prob
third gear on my 4x4 saff is giving up the ghost, awful loud knocking in third only,is this common on a 4x4 box?? been getting quotes of £500 plus vat just to replace 3rd 
, so i phoned fords and for the gear its £60 so mike our fitter is going to do it, anyone got any manuals in downloadable format on how to strip and rebuild the box?? cheers

I`d check with Bernie(Gearboxman)first mate,Won`t just be third gear you have to replace.......What about the gear it meshes with ?...that could be bolloxed as well,what about seals,gaskets,etc,etc..?
You are getting quotes of £500 for a reason.......

your quotes are a bit high, probably cosworth tax 
just take it to a gearbox place and ask for a refurb and see how much it is
i got mine rebuilt for around the £300 mark with everything included, but if you start to factor in bits like the syncro rings etc the ill soon starts to tot up
and if you think about it, 3rd gear tends to be the weak point looking at a lot of posts and bernie is probably the best person as a first point of call
