Cometic gasket on High Comp? Absolute faeces. Rhinoceros manure. Total camel excrement!

Glad to be of amusement Karl he he!! But the facts are true.

I would concur with Doug. Isnt it better to have 500bhp every day for a year than for a month?

Trust me.... save up the extra Ł200.00 or it'll end in tears...or lower the compression. Put the 2 gaskets side by side and one looks like its made in Taiwan!!

WRC cars did not use Cometic gaskets. If your gonna go high comp, come down to about 8:5 or 8.6:1. Should be ok with T35 but try and save the extra and buy a proper gasket!

You took the T4 off your RS500 & put a T34 on? First time I've ever heard of someone doing that! Everyone assumed you would still be on T4 cos it's an RS500 mate

The cometic gasket really is the cheapest of cheapest things. It should'nt even retail for Ł30 let alone over Ł100!!!!

As for C.R, I've said it before and it's fallen on deaf ears, but for a reliable road car (i.e. running on normal pump fuel) on a T4 at 500bhp you need to going for C.R below 8.0:1.

to get the most out of an AVCR you need to get a speed signal, RPM signal, Injector duty signal. On most jap cars you can splice into the ECU and get them not to sure about these on cossies which is why i am opting for a simpler controller. You need these electronic inputs for the self learing and Gear V's boost options. Not sure what signals are electronic on a cossie TBH

Most of the Big power jap cars run a profec B (no frills) over AVCR's which says alot i think. Not that i ever had a problem with the AVCR but that was on a lot less boost on a Datsun.

the other reason i didnt fit it was i think it will look a bit too out of place in an antiquated 3 dr dash lol

Rpm Signal is straight from the coil, Speed sensor is easy - u can just use one that screws into the gearbox like on the fuel computers use. It just monitors the injector duty cycle - think thats optional if u dont do something else which i cant remember at the mo lol.

would even 7.8:1 do enough ? for bigger power? as at the moment i got a 200 block with 4x4 pistons and a 2wd head which in combination should lower the CR.

So the only gasket you 2 advise is teh Mountune WRC one ?

you need a TPS as well which i think you should be ok with. You *may* be able to use the ABS for speed signal

Tiff,

But looking at the post further up, you can see that Karl is not objecting to the relatively cheap alternative of "O" ringed block (Ł60.00 approx) + late Es Cossie h/gasket (Ł 20.00)...........Very easy to overlook that there were reliable 500 + BHP cossies LONG before WRC head gaskets were devised............Even Paul Baileys Escort (Mk2) with the usual 500 spec WON many races and continues to blitz allcomers on track days on an "O" ring blocked engine........

So if you were going for a Stage 3 rebuild, would Group A or Cometic Gaskets be better?

You could always go for a "Low Lag" head from Norris Motorsport, Matt has a Low Lag engine built by NMS and on a T34 it makes full boost at 3200rpm, 32PSI i think.............Now that is a quick pick up

dilemma:

the Mountune WRC one is mega expensive - probably wont fuck up on any time

the Grp A one sounds fookin cheap - could be made out of plastic for that price

To be fair, i think a few people run Group A gaskets on 330bhp convertions and they are ok with them, as long as the boost isnt too high.

BUT

After 330bhp i wouldnt bother getting a group A as you will be on Borrowed time.

There is NOTHING wrong with cometic gaskets

Coopers rings...YES

I take it o-ring block means wire rung?

My professional advice mate ..RS500....Comp ratio is too high..dont do it 7.8-1 is perfect imo good off boost drivability too.Air injectors perfect.....not sure you need coil packs really.Cams...BD10'S

Not everything is perfect 100% of the time!I would imagine even a WRC one has had faults

I still say that the main problem with gasket failures is a mistake by the fitter.
