Anybody recently gone through a career change???
Ive been out of work now for over 2 years looking after my young children, and now that they are going to nursery im looking at going back to work.
Only trouble is what the hell to do......
I dont have any 1 thing that jumps out at me saying 'do this'......
Ive got a wide area of skills from engineering to computing to customer based..........
Just dont know what to do.....
get a job that pays the bills (anything suitable) or try a new career for which ive got no idea what to do...........
Any advice from anyone having gone through this already???

ive recently gone from mechanic to security/doorwork and loving it. was there two/three weeks and promotions were mentioned already! unless you need to be earning 20k+ straight off the bat just get on the jobcentre website and have a pop and anything mate! if it doesnt work out, its no hardship to look for something else!

I am having a change of career,
After making good wages in the taxi and losing my social life i still am in limbo but got a few irons in the fire, PR work, writing, going for my HGV and do a few hours a week agency.
Still gonna be feelance as being self employed for so long taking orders from a possible fuckwit would be hard to take.
Hard decision to make, cash or life, I chose life.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
just leaft 10 years of working on shop floor programming cnc machines and into sales selling the things as of tomorrow. complete change for me, give it a go and if you don't like it, its better to have given it a go rather than regretting not doing it in the first place.
good luck

My wife went back to work after the kids and just started do a few hours a week as a receptionist at the local swimming pool totaly not what she did before the children after a while she decided that she wanted something more rewarding so now the kids are at school she works at a special needs school just as a class room assistant she really loves it the money aint great but it does mean that she has the same holidays as the kids and that sure makes life a hell of a lot less complicated

Thanks fella's for the replies
I think the thing thats made it worse is the fact that after 8 years in my engineering job I fancied a change and went a completely different career path, leaving my secure well paid job for a lesser paid one......
Turned out to be not like I expected and I left.
So now I guess im worried about making the same mistake again, but know that if I dont at least try i wont know
what a headache

I changed a couple of years ago from being (if I say so myself) a half-decent IT Tech (MCSE+I, CCNA, CCNP, A+, Dell and Compaq certified) to trading Sports/Performance cars.
Love it, despite the massive wage-cut. If you don't try it, you'll never know, there's times when you regret it, I got offered a 35k/year job last month, and I thought about it, but I know I'd just hate it again.
Good Luck with whatever you decide mate... doesn't sound like financial things are an issue, so try a few!

needless to say any training will involve having to borrow money to fund it.
training away further complicates things too
