Petrucci is in a fix and needs our help...
Petrucci, as most of you know lives on the south coast of France and drives an Escort Cosworth LT model.
He currently has problems with hsi steering rack. He has stripped it down and found his pinion itself has worn. The problem is of course, Ford no longer sell them.
Any ideas if UK racks contain teh same Pinion item peeps? Could someone send him a good used UK rack and he strip it for teh pinion?
Lets help him out peeps

Team HOTHOT!
Arses Stu, Disposed of THREE good racks a couple of weeks ago
But as far as I am aware, the helix gear on the pinion is not handed so a RHD one should work

thanks all for your replies. The ford part number is 6697508, and it's no longer available here and in UK too it seems. If someone can find me this pinion alone and sell it to me, i would be REALLY greateful as i'm on the verge of buyin a complete rack (and i already bought the reconditioning kit which will stay untouched as it's the pinion i needed to change first, and the joints are useless without it )
if someone can help with this part...

btw i've been told that French Escos steering racks could differ from other LHD ones, as mine is "supposed" to be the same as an Orion one...
If it can help, i bought the right reconditionning kit for my rack (which does not include the pinion of course ) and the part number was 6140723.

The pinions are not the same between LHD and RHD - I have stripped both types and they are handed to the rack -This is 100% fact
Doo is the man - if he says thats the correct part number take it as read
There were only two types of 4x4 rack - 2.8 turns lock to lock for xr4x4 etc and 2.4 turns lock to lock - Cosworth only, so these will not have been fitted to any other model.
The pinion from a 2.8 turns will not fit a 2.4 turns version as the teeth have a different pitch profile to match the rack
Good Luck

forgive me if this is a silly question, but why not just find a lhd sierra/granada rack and look at the pinion in that?
if it fits you've saved yourself loads of hassle
or
if you are REALLY stuck and will never get another one, the sierra/granada racks should fit no problems (other than the turns lock to lock, but from what i can rememerb reading, this is only to sto the wheels from rubbing in the archs and chassis legs anyway)

Spoke to a dealer here in Sweden who according to Pet's info should have one in stock. They had to dig deep down in there warehouse shelfs to locate the part but it seems to be the correct one and should be posted to me today.
Hopefully I will get it tomorrow and can take some photos to verify its the part needed before shipping it on to Pet.
But, since this parts is in the same league as hens teth and rocking horse manure I will put it on eBay instead.
Offcourse im kidding.

When you look at the photos make sure it has quite wide teeth, as it could be the more common 2.8 turns version which will not fit your rack as the teeth are finer
I did have both a rhd 2.8 and 2.4 pair of pinions but not seen them for a while in the garage - if I can find them I will take a pic side by side so you can see the difference
