My local council is charging me VAT on my garage rent each week....

is this correct, as I thought VAT was for items bought from a shop etc...

the council is part of the government anyway....

the dont charge VAT on my mums old council house either !?

if you are a councill tennant, then you won't pay vat.

If you are a private resident renting a councill plot, you will pay vat on it

ouch, so because i am not a tenant i have to pay VAT

how do they work that one out

Not sure on the formalities of it, but thats the way it seems to work
