Default Right, It is doing my head in now--Re starting the car

Right then

Had the car running yesterday and ticking over fine. Drove it a few mile and it was running ok. Came back, turned it off and back on again....Fine, ticking over ok

Went to the garage today and it struggled to start.....but once it did start it wouldnt tick over on its own.....

Now wont start

HELP....i want to enjoy the Series 1

fuelling is up the wall by the sounds of it. Get someone to crank it, and u gently press down the metering flap, and i bet she'll start.

if the metering head is as fooked as it sounds it could be

ok .. how about checking for an air leaks ?? if extra air is getting in that would stop it idleing.. also there is a screw under the throttle body on the r/h side that you can turn .. this restricts air and allows tickover .. they can get clogged with debris ...

What all did you change, was it just the bit with the fuel pipes going to it or the big fuck of bit with the flap and all.

I still seems like the metering head as this was the same symptoms I had. I even replaced the fuel pump with a brand new item and it made no difference.

Well if it doesn't, or hardly moves, then you have an airleak and she'll never start properly.

Tiff, get it running and keep it running by feathering the throttle flap. Get a large can of WD40 and spray it round all the pipe joints, manifold gaskets, base of metering unit, servo seam and pipe. Basically anywhere that the induction system can draw air through if it was leaking. That includes breathers. If it sucks in the WD40 and starts to pick up RPM, then you have an air leak where you last sprayed the WD40.
