why do they hire non-techy staff for IT Recruitment firms?
just spent about 1hr on the phone explaining to some bloke what all the acronyms on my CV mean the one that got me the most was "whats TCP/IP"? i mean c'mon you must surely know what tcpip is if you read IT people's CVs day in day out

A lot of them tend to be ex estate agents too.
Spoke to one recently who kept asking me if i supported "Wintel"
when my cv clearly states nt4/2k/2003 on compaq and dell hardware. Clarts!
Probably employ them for the same reason that 80% of IT managers actually seem to know fuck all about IT!

I'm an IT manager at an investment bank in the City, and worked my way up through - used to be shit hot technically, but as your responsibilities change you de-skill and forget stuff. Technology moves on and you are less involved and not hands on, so again, knowledge goes.
IT recruiters are utter sh*t. Their other speciality is to send you to job interviews that don't fit your skill set. They say - "just say you can pick it up quickly, or read up on it...." Like you can wing your way into a £60K technical job with a few hours of reading

'just re-boot' = 'i havent got a fucking clue whats wrong with it turn it off and then back on.. not only will this give me more time to think of something technical to say when asked what was 'actually wrong with it' but it may randomly fix the problem!'
