Default Cossie Phase sensor .. how reliable are they?

just wondering of most people on here have replced theirs? are they that prone to malfunction?

also how do you gap it correctly?

is it just a case of keeping the screws loose then tightening once the sensor strip is a few mm from the rotor arm stump?

cheers

try a little closer than a few mm's

i think they are quite reliable really, no moving parts for them to fuck up only the wire

Dave,

I might be wrong on this but if yours is a T34 Es Cos then it does NOT have a phase sensor!

AFAIK the phase sensor is fitted to Small Turbo Es Cosie (Fakes ) only, they replace the conventional distributer and are VERY reliable!

Usually very reliable apart for aging burnt out wires as Gareth has mentioned, gap using a feeler gauge to 10 thou. Always worth replacing if your's has'nt been replaced since car was new.

Doug you've gone mad.

All cosworths EXCEPT small turbo escos use a phase sensor inside the distributor.

Replaced crank and phase sensor on mine pretty much as soon as I got it.

Gap for phase sensor in new money is between 0.2 and 0.3mm

What is the gap supposed to be on the crank sensor for a small turbo? Is it adjustable?
