Only because most people don't own or haven't tried a proper gas one!

I was exactly the same until I finally gave in to the boys at work and bought one.

I would NEVER go back now! just sooooooooo much better.

I was under the impression the gas was only to get the charcoals upto temp and then it's switched off, and the charcoals do the cooking?
No fooking about with lighter fluid etc .

So you dont actually cook with the gas!

so. . GAS for me!

oh

I saw something on the telly the other day about BBQ's and was sure the guy turned the gas off once it had heated the charcoal! must of been wrong tho.

http://www.barbecue-online.co.uk/bar...s_barbecue.htm

gives some good info

*edit*
3rd paragraph down

http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:...k&ct=clnk&cd=2

"I have seen some 'gas' barbecues where you can get charcoal baskets as accessories!? The idea is that you use the 'gas' to light the 'charcoal' then turn off the gas to cook on the charcoal. Two observations. 1. seems a very expensive way to light what is a 'charcoal' barbecue and 2. seems a very good way of making your gas barbecue very dirty and also potentially wearing it out for the wrong reasons."

I knew i wasnt tripping

Bought a 2 burner gas job from B&Q tonight, cost less than Ł100 with a full gas bottle(including bottle). Will get it fired up tomorrow and let you know the outcome.

With Charcoal BBQ's not everbody waits till the coals have gone white before they start cooking, hence the extreme charcoal taste.

Gas all the way IMO.

once you have used the gas one a few times, the lava rocks work the same a coal bbq's. Heat them up and just use the gas to keep the rocks hot and off you go
