Could be a wise move mate. 996 prices have been CRUSHED. They are serious Bargains now and I think prices will level soon. Depreciation will be far less than the M3.

Lovely cars but I just prefer soft tops and the 996 cab looks FAT arsed and a bit wanky. LOVELY to drive though

Marco loves his 996 Cabs

I was going to suggest a 996 and started looking on piston heads which is where I saw that race one that I posted up

M3 more practical, a true 4 seater, newer and just as fast.

The choice is yours

Do NOT badge up a Carrera with an Aerokit as a GT3 though. CUNTS do that

The new GT3 RS looks awesome.

I was lucky enough to go out for a proper blast with a guy who had the old shape one.

Absolutely stunning car.

The two most impressive things were the handling and braking capabilities of it

Jason, they are pretty rare, great looking and fast and super comfy.

Sooooo dull to drive though. You feel really detached from whats going on.

Ryan, go for it is all I can say. Porkie is right, the 996 took a whacking on price when they launched the 997 and you can get some serious bargains now.

Ive had 3 996 4S's and a 997S, now got the turbo bus and a boxster to keep the wife happy. Cant fault the cars, they are total driving pleasure and incredibly reliable. (although I did blow the gearbox up on the Boxster a couple of months back!!!)

The Porsche UK customer service is going downhill fast since Porsche took ownership of the big dealers a couple of years back and thats a real shame. I avoid the dealership now if I can, whereas you were always welcome and the service was more personal. They have turned into a total volume sales business now and taken their eye off the customer.

I think your money is better invested in a 996 now than an M3 although if you got caught as a 996 owner when they launched the 997 youve probably had your pants taken down.

Wise words GT2 and GT3RS owners were hardest hit... ouch.

If you ever look to sell the Turbo Bus Polly let me know. I really fancy one. Had a look at yours at Bedford and it was exactly how I'd spec mine

The only problem I've found with the 996 is that they look a little "dated" inside.....

Not that I'd turn one down, OBVIOUSLY.....

Will have to scan in some pics of my Dad's old Porsche dealership that we recently found - classic 70s porn style moustache type drivers and cars (i.e my Dad ) but some cool 911 rally cars and race cars etc....

The 997s was just better all round. It handled better than the 4s in the dry and was quite a bit quicker. Must say I always felt safer in the 4S though as it just felt stuck to the road at all times. With the 997 you had to get used to a bit more body movement, but when you did it was very good. The interior on the 997 was way better than the 996 as well as PON pointed out.

Took me a while to get used to the looks though. I was not 100% happy when I first got it as I thought the 996 4S was maybe better and had more presence on the road, but the 997 won me over in the end.

Glad you like the Cayenne spec. Took me a while to find it as I did not buy that one new (was about 6 months old). There was still a year wait for a Turbo at the time so decided to go used. Difficult to get the spec you want when your not ordering new as well but got there in the end. I really wanted black with black leather, but settled for Graphite in the end. Its a wicked car and the handling just makes me laugh everytime I give it some stick. I cant resist taking it on the track when I trailer the westy though!!!!

Got to say though that the Boxster is still the best fun out of all them. Not mega fast but just such a good all rounder.

Your right about the GT2 and GT3RS prices. Ive been tempted by a GT2 a couple of times now. They are serious bits of kit. 480 brake rear wheel drive fun!!!!!

The GT2 Mk IIs aren't very good cars other than on the road, as they are too heavy.

Ronnie (as in Rocket Ron) sold his MkI GT3 for one and really regrets it. The handling is not a patch on his GT3 and it is just quick in a straight line and not a lot else.

The GT2 had MAJOR revisions done though Mike. The later ones are MUCH better and a really under rated apparently.

Never driven one sadly. At Ł50k though they are looking serious value for what was a Ł120k car a few years ago!

Yep that new GT3 should be pant wettingly good! I'm currently dealing with a guy buying a new Merc S320 off me who has a 2 year old Carrera with sports kit on it & has a new GT3 on order for delivery February. He went to the launch day at Thruxton I think it was (it was in Andover anyway) and said it looked even better in the flesh His is costing Ł93k & he hasn't even gone for the carbon brake option. Definitely gonna try & blag a passenger ride when his S320 is delivered

Dont know really Porkie. Porsche claimed it was a genuine manufacturer fault. The car was not even 3 years old and less than 20K miles. They said one of the shafts wore and the bearings picked up on it causing a failure. They replaced it under warranty anyway and put a new clutch in for free so now its ok.

I think your right about the last of the GT2's being better. I thought they were basically the same as the last 996 GT3 give or take some styling and the engine.
