Stuck exhaust manifold
Managed to get the turbo off last night - is it not the WORST job on an escort!! 
But it seems the manifold doesn't want to play ball, tried tapping it with a hammer but the next step will be smashing shite out of it unless someone knows of any tricks??

just belt it with a hammer a few times. close to the head though as you dont want to bend the studs in the head.
