Default Had my wisdom teeth out

Had all four removed last monday and have to go back today to get the stitches taken out.
I was gonna gross everyone out by posting pics of the said teeth but they're pretty fooked up, i.e they still have bits of gum attached.
One had four roots on!!!!! (They are only supposed to have three) And all my roots were hooked and going in different directions so an op that was supposed to take 20 mins ended up taking 55!
They had to remove a small part of my jaw too cos the bottom left tooth was hooked round it or something.
I went to hospital on saturday cos my jaw had a lump the size of a golfball on it...it was infected and the pain was excruciating.
Oh, i only had local anaesthetic too but it took twelve inections to stop me from being able to feel them removing the teeth. Cool eh?
Anyone else had theirs removed?

Mine kept catching so i had to get them out. It'll be worth it in the long run.
Quite a few people i have spoken to agreed with you about taking all four out at once. They were quite suprised it was allowed.

Kim: had mine removed 2 years ago. Bottom left wisdom teeth were growing horizontally and the right ones were always infected. they put me to sleep because they had to cut the teeth into 4 smaller sections before they could be removed. Face swelled up like a hamster and the pain was savage. Lived on porridge and angel delight for 2 weeks b4 eating anything proper.

Only good thing was the nurse when i woke up. She was well fit i tell thee.

Hope u r ok!!!

I had 2 of mine out under general anaesthetic cos i didn't fancy being awake but despite them grinding a piece of mny jaw out as well (they were talkign about beaking it for some reason but i can't remember now) the pain was pretty minimal tbh. got 2 weeks of work and spent the whole time playing ps2.

AJ...yeah it hurts like fook after but i've been taking Cuprofen (400mg of Ibuprofen) every three to four hours (says every 8 hours on pack but the pain's quite savage at first) A good tip is to rinse your mouth with Difflam Oral Rinse (about Ł8 from a chemist) as it numbs everything, especially when you get the ulcers and to rinse as much as you can with salt water.
If you get any smelly discharge or a horrible taste in your mouth then go to the dentist or the hospital immediately as it usually means you have an infection and will need antibiotics so it doesn't spread to the other teeth. I didn't go to hospital to get mine done, i had it done in a chair at the dentist whilst i was fully awake. Good luck matey!

Cossierich330...Been living on soup and yoghurt. made the mistake of trying to eat a Ferrero Roche just after the op but it hurt like hell as i couldn't chew it and the nuts got stuck in all the holes and caused an infection. I was awake the whole time as i said to AJ so when they had to drill my jaw to remove the other bit of tooth i was wide awake. Had nightmares about the feeling for a couples of days.
Luckily i coincided my teeth with two weeks holiday so have been watching lots of movies to keep me entertained. My dentist is a bloke and wasn't fit but i had Paul waiting for me so that was my good thing. He said he starting cringing in the waiting room cos everyone could hear the drill.

At least you won't feel a thing cos you'll be in hospital under general anaesthetic. All you have to worry about is keeping it clean and free from infection. It's the infection that causes most of the pain so i can't stress enough to keep it clean. Rinse with salt water as many times a day as you can. That's the best advice i can give you. When you get home just rest as much as you can so you can heal quicker.

i'd opt for a general AJ, they'll give you some good pain killers as part of your anaesthetic when you go sleep, ull wake up with swabs hanging out your mouth so don't panic!!!

No worries. Try not to worry about it too or you'll have loads of tension before you go in. I didn't even think about mine, just went in, sat on the chair and opened up. You can't really worry about stuff like that cos there's nothing you can do to change it. It'll all be better after a week.

Anyway, they made me a promise that when i'm better we'll get pizza again and i can choose what goes on it. Mmmmm.....meat feast with mushrooms and black olives.

Ok, just come back from having the stitches out. I told the dentist i couldn't open my jaw fully still and he gave me that look of 'how do i tell you this' and i asked him what was wrong. He said that in some rare cases (aren't they always? ) when the injections are administered for the anaesthetic they have to go through the muscle tissue and can sometimes (in these rare cases) penetrate a blood vessel and cause a blood clot. He said it's only been a week so if i do these jaw excercises everyday i may be able to get the movement in my jaw back and be able to open it more than an inch. When i asked him what would happen if the feeling didn't come back he said 'well we'll have to deal with that if it happens'. Could i lose the movement in my jaw completely? Any dental experts out there cos i'm beginning to worry now.
P.s: AJ don't read this!!!!!!

Yeah, i hate it when they say 'it's very rare, but...' i must be one rare breed of human if i count up the amount of times a doctor or dentist has said that to me in my lifetime. It could jut be that they are young, just out of dental school and read it in a text book. I just happen to be the first case they've come across. Anyway, got some jaw stretching to do......Lol.

Had mine removed abuot 7 weeks ago under general. The bottom 2 were taken out as they were infected and couldnt come through. I thought wisdoms were supposed to have 4 roots as the dentist said mine were hooked on the ends which meant they were very close to the nerves. Had disolvable stitches and then flew to Australia 4 days later.

had 2 of mine taken out, one from top other from bottom, the dentist said that my jaw was too small for the amount of teeth i had and was causing the tooth to grow back the way into my jaw, it eventually got infected and thats what i went to the dentist for, i couldnt eat anything before it due to the pain, was awake when he pulled both of them out, felt like my jaw was gonna come away in his pliers! after it i can say i didnt feel any pain, although i did spend the next week playing about with the stitches in my mouth lol

Yep, i know what you mean about the stitches! Lol.
Saf Cossie: Your wisdom teeth should only have three roots on and should be straight. I only had one with four on but they were all hooked, the bastards.
I've only been in serious amounts of pain cos i got mine infected by trying to eat a ferrero roche and the tiny bits of nuts got stuck in the holes for a couple of days....not nice.
I was yawning lots last night but it hurt due to my jaw but then i felt an almighty crack and Paul heard it from across the room. I can open my jaw further now and am in less pain. Probably just a stiff muscle that needed cracking or something but it was bloody loud and painful!

I had mine removed a few years ago...

I went to the dentist for a regular check up and she said: Lets take it out right now...

I called my boyfriend to come over and hold my hand, but by the time he was there it was already out and it wasn't as bad as I was afraid off.....

But it wasn't anything like with you...the dentist pulled it out herself so nothing special! Lucky me I guess. I would freak out if I needed it done in the hospital...
