Asking this as i have never had to have one fitted, they are usually all ready on the car

How much is a cat 1 alarm and how much is a cat 2 imobiliser???

Get change from £200 fitted - easily on the immobiliser. Alarm - for a decent Clifford with prox sensors I'd budget £500. Most Cliffords have an immobiliser built in which is Thatcham approved.

I had a toad cat 1 on my old 206 gti, wasn't alot (maybe 300 notes) , was easy to use, and more importantly was reliable

I'm about to list a cat 2 immobiliser on eBay, if this is any good to you? It can come with a **BLANK** VSIB certificate

Its not against the law to fill it in yourself, a lot of insurance companies will accept it, it just doesnt get filed to VSIB.

Fair enough if you are getting a full alarm though, i took this off the orion in the siggy, and bought a full Cat 1 Toad for £115 delivered to my door

Mark had plenty of Cat2's attached to my cars in the past and never paid more than £120 fitted at home.

Guy normally comes out does it in an hour and offski.

transponder toad type I've had in the past.

Also Microtechnics - I've never had any issues but I know some people do.

to be honest though mate your paying that money for a 30-90 second delay on the vehicle theft and a bit of paper for the ins company as quite frankly they're not the most difficult things to remove.

You've got a point, but i'd challenge you to try and get my cabby started and running in 90 secs

U wont find them wires in a hurry

If all you want it for is the insurance company, ive seen certificates floating around for less than a tenner..........just a thought?

To be fair I prob couldn't without a cat 2 let alone with one- but i have removed them from various vehicles and I am confident with a little less care and in a rush 90 seconds would see most removed quite happily...

Unft its down to the installer as to how difficult they are to remove.

while going to pay for your fuel

with kids playing around in the car

the windows will not stop on old cars going up "fingers and heads comes to mind"

I agree they don't do much, but as you say if they are installed well then the ends of the cut wires should ne where near each other, like you i have removed many and more often that not the cut wires are there to easily re-join.

Hence why i fitted mine myself, and saved a wad
