Andy (Rsnissan) told me to heat it then smack seven kinds of shite out of it................
But was wondering how everyone else tackled it?
I know mines going to be a proper mission!

Get a good quality 2 or 3 legged puller, you'll need to take out the radiator etc to get one in. Put a small amount of tension on it then heat the pulley up and gradually increase the tension on the puller.
If you don't, it WILL break, and they are like hens teeth these days. Trust me, just done mine.

The proper way is to use the special puller that is designed to remove it.
Personally I would be really careful about whacking it as they can be surprisingly fragile and crack, the little lugs on them are also easy to snap off which makes them useless.

no mate!
serious, thats what the pulley is (apart from a drive for the alt and bits)
a balance.
they are like Ł10 - 15 for the tool.
Either of these 2 will do it.

The reason I broke my pulley was because I tried to be a smartarse and lever it off with two big fook off bars. I slipped, and snapped off a lug, then beat the shit out it with a hammer in frustration!
Then I got a three legged puller, and it came straight off

I made a couple of tools up so it would come off without removing the rad.
There are three bolt holes in the front of the pully that come in handy for this, one tool holds the pully whilst you loosen the bolt, the other one bolts to the front of the pully and jacks against the bolt that holds it on.
Made life much easier.

Francos,
You have to leave the bolt in otherwise the head of the puller has nothing to locate onto, except the hollow threaded insert of the crank.
What I ended up doing was drilling a small hole in the bolt face to give the puller nose somewhere to sit without wandering. Then to get more length, I used a small socket on the head of the bolt, with the puller in the square end - only because my puller was quite a short reach one.
Otherwise, you can just undo the bolt further to allow the puller to come further....

Franco,
No Mistake M8
I just slackened the bolt and screwed it out a bit at a time.
Left it in there to save the end of the crank getting dammaged from the pully. If you look closely you will just see that it is slack by the gap in the washer. Once the pully started to move i just wound it out about 1/2" a time.

Franco, Stating the obvious, but you have loosened the bolt enough to allow the pulley to move further right??
