i though you only needed the hydraulic conversion if you were going the multiplate clutch route, surely the std cover with a alcon 6 paddle is fine for stg 3 and a box that wont go bang..?

The standard cable clutch stretches / the ratchet mechanism doesn't adjust properly and then makes the clutch drag on the flywheel wearing both the clutch and creating raised hot spots on the flywheel, which then exagerates the problem into a vicious circle.

so is it prudent to repace the std cable as a matter of course after 20-30K anyway to help reduce this..? i take it , as it stratches, its got the weight of the pedal riding the clutch not allowing the full pressure of the pressure plte to clmap the drive plate when engaged..?

You should change them everytime you change the clutch. However, when fitting a heavy duty item, even this isn't enough and the cable will stretch (and often snap) at almost any mileage .

My box went bang too and shite did it make me jump, was giving it some welly in 2nd up a hill and snapped the leyshaft, wasn't long after i had the new engine in so i cant see yours lasting Paul

Got mine done by a company near me, wasn't too pricey and its been totally sweet since, not that im expecting it to last much longer, but im careful not to boot it up hills or with 4 people in cos i know it may go again.

but if using a std cover plate, the load on the cable will be the same as std yes.? just using an uprated drive plate would be ok..?

Heat stretch issues I believe as well Dave.......... I've driven back to back cars with cable and hydraulic, and the difference is remarkable!

The cables still stretch with age and the ratchet mechanism is still wank . I can't understand why you would be prepared to spend Ł3.5k on the gearbox, but not Ł350 on getting the hydraulic conversion .

the conversion does sound helishly expensive for what it is though.... a master/slave cylinder setup... can this not be adapted from another vehicle for a fraction of the cost...?

always the case with ford owners this, spend Ł500000000000.000000000 on a new engine then crib about Ł500 for a clutch to take it

What needs to be modified to fit your kit??
Do you have to weld a bracket on the chassis or something around the existing pedale?
I guess it's 'bolt on' on the box side?
