XBOX 360 owners running Hi Definition...
..isnt it the absolute bollocks I am running it on a 50inch LCD Rear Pro job at 1080i resolution and cannot beleive the graphics...PGR3 is staggering same as Tomb Raider...for people running games consoles on a normal TV you are probably running 480p resolution and tbh it looks shit..LOL....i started off like that on std resolution and thought nice graphics..then i realised i hadnt switched it to HDTV How technology has progressed is mind blowing...so looking forward to Test Drive

Do you have to switch the XBOX 360 settings to HDTV. Just wondering because I have a Sony 42" LCD Rear Pro, it doesn't have HD Ready sticker on it, but it I can run my PC on it at a resolution of 1024x768 which is fantastic for gaming! If the XBOX 360 will run at that res on my TV I may get one!

Phil,
Like your knowledge of engines your knowledge of video technology is also lacking!
"normal" TV's wont even support 480p
But.... Hi-Def is certainly the way to go!
No point in having your settings on your set (and XBOX360) set to 1080i..... no software exists that uses that res, as 720p is the standard at present even though this will probably change in the future and all that is happening is that your set is upscaling the picture so you are not getting true 1080i, just some butchered version!
Always best to use the nearest matched res on your set that is being produced by the xbox360 and software (1280x720 which is 720p).

hi mate....you have to connect it to the TV via the componant (RYB) and then on the lead is a switch that says normal or HDTV....then in the menu you set it up to 480p 720p or 1080i...TBH i dont think your TV will be able to do that. You onlu get the HD cable in the Premium pack too.

Turbo-Nutter,
Your set must be able to accept a res of at least 1280x720 to be HD compatible (it must also have either a DVI, HDMI or at the very least component - not to be confused with composite - inputs).
1024x768 is SD not HD.

Fagin on the boxes of the games it says what resolution it will play and TR supports all 3 480/720/1080...where as pgr3 says 720p only and in 1080i shows no difference.
Honestly you can notice a difference ok nothing major but it looks sharper on 1080i so my guess is it has been written in that mode being actually better than 720p.
SKY HDTV also broadcasts upto to 1080 interlaced it switches automatically to the best resolution
I know this shit Fagin

Phil,
My apologies..... just checked and it would seem that this game actually fully supports 1080i. Thats easily concluded by the fact that everyone seems to be moaning about the framerate dropping compared to 720p mode.
BUT.... be aware not every game does, so you might have to flip res between different games to get the best picture.

Phil,
Those modes on the back of the game merchandise doesnt mean the software is specifically coded for those different res's mate...... PGR was not even coded in 720p.... it was done in some frankenstein 560p (or whatever it was) res.

720p to 1080i on a piece of software that is not programmed in that resolution will show no difference what so ever (in fact 1080i in this scenario could be worse)..... regardless of wtf it says on the back of the game box! Whilst on your forum travels, do you have any comprehension of what upscaling and downscaling means!!!
I admitt I shouldnt of said NO software that supports 1080i natively had been released (I didnt know about TR), as I forgot that Geometry Wars was coded for 1080i.... so apologies for that.

Mine is run off a 46" rear pro Samsung on HDTV. Absolutely stunning. Best game IMO I have seen for graphics so far on the 360 is the Elder Scrolls. To have different times of day/grass and trees moving etc. So close to movie quality

Fagin...the box says what modes you can play the game in...i doubt they would put a mode where it would look worse..if so they wouldnt put it Go back to Subarus
Saff i have Elder Scrolls but aint even opened the box!

yuo do realise that 'hd' cable that comes with the premium is only a component cable, there still designing the hdmi cable,
so no one has played the machine with hd yet, .........
u can use a vga lead though and go for higher reses.
ive got the 32' lcd samsung screen that is used to demo the xbox

I have my XBOX 360 connected to a Sanyo Z4 HD projector, projecting on a 88" screen.
I use eco mode on my Z4, so it should last 3000 hours. That should be a few years for me as i don't use it all the time.

Zippyobrien,
HD is not about the cable used. Its about the amount of lines the screen displays. An HD component cable has 4 inputs for the video signal where a non HD component cable has 1 input for video. There is many ways to show HD pictures such as HDMI, DVI, VGA and component cable. Obviously HDMI is the top cable for quality of picture.
XBOX 360 games must run a minimum of 720p res.

Phil,
My sets are capable of displaying a 1080i picture, but they arent natively capable of displaying that res.... so the question still stands, is your set native at 1080i.... better still give me the model number and I will find out myself. Because basically if it aint capable of displaying a 1080i picture natively, I would very very very much doubt that your set with a 1080i picture sent to it will be better (if at all) than 720p (assuming your set has a native res of 720). But since you know best..... you must be right in any case!
Zippyobrien,
Sorry mate you are not correct. Component WILL and DOES carry a HD signal. HDMI is just a digital version of the same (giving slightly better quality as it's digital as in signal to noise ratio NOT resolution etc) combined with audio as well. HDMI is just more of an accepted standard that manufacturers are sticking to (DVI is also digital, but without the sound carriers and can be converted to HDMI with appropriate leads).
A proper audio setup certainly makes a difference..... i'm whacking mine through a Dolby Digital amp.
