Default Alternators

a month ago I had starter motor problems and the car was retired for a bit, anyway tuner came to tow the car to fix the starter motor. I had not power even for the ign lights to come on so I thought I would need to towed all the way. Anyway my tuner said just put it in 3rd and it will start.

well 100m down the road the engine was runing ey

I always thought you needed some power to the alternator to charge.

eg I thought they had 2 eletro magnet coils so one would need to have power.

am I talking shit

Car doesn't need much power to run, and if you jump start it, once the engine is running it'll start charging as with the ign on the alternator only needs about 2 amps to the field wire to start charging, if the battery has enough to power the ecu and coil then it'll provide enough to the alternator.

you dont need an alternator for it to start

alternator just keeps the battery charged up while driving

if the starter motor fails then a jump start like you did will get the car going as when its in gear the the sudden impact will spin the engine over like the starter would do
and should or will fire up

obviously if teh alternator is not acharging at all then it wont last long as you will be running on whats left in the battery charge

but there was no battery charge to even power up the ecu so the alternator must have supllied power

but how

but there was not enough power to light up the ign lights so I cannot see how it could find 2 amps to feed the alternator.

mabe there was some res magnetic force in one for the coils?

it wouldnt neeed to feed the alternator as the alternator has nothing to do with starting the car

if the car had just enough power tfor the ecu carnk sensor

then it would start on a bump

only needs that little bit with a jump start to get it running

I know the alternator has nothing to do with starting the car, A 12v battery from a drill will start a car from bump, but my point is if the system could not turn on my ign light how the fook would it feed the edis or the ECU
